COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004 CHAIRMAN PHIL MENDELSON COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE ANNOUNCES A PUBLIC HEARING on Bill 24-939, Repeal of Outdated and Unnecessary Audit Mandates Amendment Act of 2022 on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Live via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast Council Website (http://www.DCCouncil.us) Chairman’s Website (http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/Live) Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public hearing of the Committee of the Whole on Bill 24-939, the “Repeal of Outdated and Unnecessary Audit Mandates Amendment Act of 2022.” The hearing will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. via zoom video conference. The stated purpose of Bill 24-939 is to repeal outdated and unnecessary mandates for audits and other reports required of the Office of the District of Columbia Auditor. The Auditor supports the Council of the District of Columbia by reviewing and auditing the accounts of District agencies and making recommendations to the Council regarding the economy, efficiency, and accountability of the District government. The Auditor is currently required to complete at least 12 statutory audits each year. Some of the statutes requiring these audits date back to before the Home Rule Act of 1973 and the creation of the Chief Financial Officer in 1995. As a result, many of the statutory audits performed by the Auditor are no longer necessary or duplicative of other reviews or audits. Those who wish to testify must register at http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/testify by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Testimony is limited to 4 minutes. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation or require sign language interpretation are requested to inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but no later than five business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, although alternatives may be offered. Requests received in less than five business days may not be fulfilled. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.
