Wilson Building 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW DC Council Website (www.dccouncil.gov) Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public hearing before the Committee of the Whole on Bill 25-196, the “Ronald ‘Ron’ Austin Memorial Park Designation Act of 2023,” Bill 25-346, the “Lee Elder Way Designation Act of 2023,” Bill 25-349, the “Jesse Mitchell Way Designation Act of 2023,” Bill 25-415, the “Robert L. Yeldell Way Designation Act of 2023,” Bill 25-533, the “St. Luke's Way Designation Act of 2023,” Bill 25-534, the “Annie's Way Designation Amendment Act of 2023,” Bill 25-535, the “Pastor John W. Davis Way Designation Act of 2023,” Bill 25-542, the “Sladen’s Court Designation Act of 2023,” and Bill 25-559, the “Blue & White Marching Machine Way Designation Act of 2023.” The hearing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023. The stated purpose of Bill 25-196 is to officially designate the park in Square 3376N, bounded by North Dakota Avenue, N.W., 2nd Street, N.W., and Quackenbos Street, N.W., in Ward 4, as “Ronald ‘Ron’ Austin Memorial Park.” The stated purpose of Bill 25-346 is to symbolically designate the 800 Block of 26th St N.E. in Ward 5, as “Lee Elder Way.” The stated purpose of Bill 25-349 is to symbolically designate W Street N.W., between First Street, N.W. and Flagler Place N.W. in Ward 5, as “Jesse Mitchell Way.” The stated purpose of Bill 25-415 is to symbolically designate the 800 block of Southern Avenue, S.E., between Chesapeake Street, S.E., and Bonini Road, S.E., as “Robert L. Yeldell Way.” The stated purpose of Bill 25-533 is to symbolically designate Church Street N.W., between 15th Street N.W. and 16th Street N.W., in Ward 2 as “St. Luke’s Way.” The stated purpose of Bill 25-534 is to symbolically designate the public alley system within Square 0179, bounded by Corcoran Street, N.W., 16th Street N.W., Q Street N.W., and 17th Street N.W., as “Annie’s Way.” The stated purpose of Bill 25-535 is to symbolically designate the 5100 block of 14th Street, N.W., in Ward 4, as “Pastor John W. Davis Way.” The stated purpose of Bill 25-542 is to officially designate the public alley system bounded by East Capitol Street, S.E., 12th Street, S.E., Independence Avenue, S.E., and 11th Street. S.E. in Ward 6, as “Sladen’s Court.” The stated purpose of Bill 25-559 is to symbolically designate A Street, N.E., between 13th Street, N.E., and 16th Street, N.E., as “Blue & White Marching Machine Way”. An official designation of an alley or public space enables the placement of addresses and possible development. Those who wish to testify must register using the Council’s Hearing Management System at https://lims.dccouncil.gov/hearings by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Testimony is limited to four minutes. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but no later than five business days before the proceeding by emailing cow@dccouncil.gov. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, although alternatives may be offered. Requests received in less than five business days may not be fulfilled. Witnesses will receive instructions on how to participate by Zoom prior to the hearing. Testimony will be publicly accessible upon Committee review. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.
