Wilson Building 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW DC Council Website (www.dccouncil.gov) Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public hearing before the Committee of the Whole on Bill 25-613, the “Cain’s Way Designation Act of 2023,” Bill 25-743, the “Alexei Navalny Way Designation Act of 2024,” Bill 25-748, the “Joseph P. Yeldell Plaza Designation Act of 2024,” Bill 25-794, the “Evanti Court Designation Act of 2024,” Bill 25-812, the “Ida B. Wells Alley Designation Act of 2024,” Bill 25-828, the “Alma Thomas Way Designation Act of 2024,” Bill 25-829, the “Zelda Fichandler Way Designation Act of 2024,” Bill 25-830, the “Pearl B. Settles Way Designation Act of 2024,” and Bill 25-841, the “Reservoir Park Recreation Center Designation Act of 2024.” The hearing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024. The stated purpose of Bill 25-613 is to symbolically designate the public alley system within Square 1071 as Cain’s Way. The stated purpose of Bill 25-743 is to symbolically designate a portion of the public alley system in Square 197 abutting Lots 841, 820, and 88 as Alexei Navalny Way. The stated purpose of Bill 25-748 is to officially designate the 8100 block of 16th Street, N.W., the 1600 block of North Portal Drive, N.W., and the 8300 block of Eastern Avenue, N.W. as Joseph P. Yeldell Plaza. The stated purpose of Bill 25-794 is to officially designate the public alley system in Square 2863, bounded by Euclid Street, Fairmont Street, Sherman Avenue, and 11th Street N.W. as Evanti Court. The stated purpose of Bill 25-812 is to officially designate the public alley system within Square 6153 as Ida B. Wells Alley. The stated purpose of Bill 25-828 is to symbolically designate 15th Street, NW between Church Street, NW and Q Street, NW as Alma Thomas Way. The stated purpose of Bill 25-829 is to symbolically designate 6th Street, S.W. between M Street, S.W. and the northern boundary of Square 472, Lot 129 as Zelda Fichandler Way. The stated purpose of Bill 25-830 is to symbolically designate 37th Place, S.E. as Pearl B. Settles Way. The stated purpose of Bill 25-841 is to officially designate the park and recreation center located in Lot 105 in Square 3128 as Reservoir Park Recreation Center. An official designation of an alley or public space enables the placement of addresses, related signage, and possible development. Those who wish to testify must register using the Council’s Hearing Management System at https://lims.dccouncil.gov/hearings by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Testimony is limited to four minutes. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but no later than five business days before the proceeding by emailing cow@dccouncil.gov. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, although alternatives may be offered. Requests received in less than five business days may not be fulfilled. Witnesses will receive instructions on how to participate by Zoom prior to the hearing. Testimony will be publicly accessible upon Committee review. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.
