COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION NOTICE OF JOINT PUBLIC OVERSIGHT HEARING 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004 CHAIRMAN PHIL MENDELSON COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE & COUNCILMEMBER DAVID GROSSO COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION ANNOUNCE A JOINT PUBLIC OVERSIGHT HEARING on Distance Learning in DC Public and Public Charter Schools On Friday, October 2, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Live via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast Council Channel 13 (Cable Television Providers) DC Council Website (www.dccouncil.us) Office of Cable Television Website (entertainment.dc.gov) Chairman Phil Mendelson and Councilmember David Grosso announce the scheduling of a joint public oversight hearing of the Committee of the Whole and the Committee on Education Distance Learning in DC Public and Public Charter Schools. The hearing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Live via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast. The purpose of this hearing is to hear from community stakeholders and government agencies about the roll out of distance learning during the ongoing public health emergency. The Committees are especially interested in hearing about digital access, the quality of learning, and understanding how schools are ensuring student attendance and engagement. Those who wish to testify may sign-up online at bit.do/EducationHearings or call the Committee on Education at (202) 724-8061 by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29 and include your name, organization affiliation (if any), and title. The Committees will hear public witnesses from 9am until noon, then proceed to government witnesses. Persons wishing to testify are encouraged to submit a copy of their testimony via email. Witnesses should limit their testimony to four minutes. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Statements should be submitted by email to astrange@dccouncil.us. The record will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform Education Committee of the need as soon as possible but no later than five (5) business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, however requests received in less than five (5) business days may not be fulfilled, and alternatives may be offered.
