on
B25-170, the “School Security and Transparency Amendment Act of 2023”
on

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, Chair of the Committee on
Facilities and Family Services will hold a public hearing to consider Bill 25-170, the “School Security
and Transparency Amendment Act of 2023.” The hearing will be held virtually via the Zoom platform
from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.
The stated purpose of Bill 25-170, the “School Security and Transparency Amendment Act of 2023”
is to exempt data that is security-sensitive from public dashboard disclosure requirements, and to
require periodic updates to the Council regarding maintenance of certain public school security
features.
Those who wish to testify must register at janeeseward4.com/testify. by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11th,
2023. Testimony is limited to 3 minutes for individuals and 5 minutes for one representative of a
bone fide organization. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation or require sign
language interpretation are requested to inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but
no later than five (5) business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely
requests, although alternatives may be offered. Requests received in less than five business days may not

The hearing will be conducted virtually on the Internet utilizing Zoom video conference
technology. Testimony should be submitted in writing to facilities@dccouncil.gov in advance of the
hearing. Written testimony will be posted publicly to https://janeeseward4.com/dropbox. If you are
unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official
record. Statements for the record should be submitted to facilities@dccouncil.gov or left by voicemail
by calling (202) 350-1396 (up to 3 minutes which will be transcribed). The record will close at 5:00pm
on April 20, 2023.
