White Jr., Chair of the Committee on Government Operations and Facilities, and Councilmember Charles Allen, Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, will hold a public hearing on B24-0446, the “Attorney General Civil Rights Enforcement Clarification Amendment Act of 2021”. The public hearing will take place via Zoom at 10:00 AM. Members of the public will be able to view the joint public hearing on DC Council Channel 13, www.dccouncil.us, www.entertainment.dc.gov, and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPJZbHhKFbnyGeQclJxQk0g/live. The stated purpose of B24-0446, the “Attorney General Civil Rights Enforcement Clarification Amendment Act of 2021”, is to clarify the authority of the Office of the Attorney General to bring civil actions under the Human Rights Act in the name of the District of Columbia. It would provide the Office of the Attorney General with investigative and enforcement tools and clarify the application of the Human Rights Act to all real estate and property management professionals. The Committees invite the public to testify remotely or to submit written testimony. Anyone wishing to testify must sign up at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeA5DFJ5bYlIKU- fMe_70uVdtXBys7KrO1r5KKXInKO2SuppQ/viewform or by phone at (202) 741-8593, and provide their name, phone number or e-mail, organizational affiliation, title (if any), and personal pronouns by the close of business on Tuesday, September 20th, 2022. Witnesses are encouraged, but not required, to submit their testimony in writing electronically in advance to facilities@dccouncil.us. Witnesses will participate remotely via Zoom. Washington, DC 20004 follow up with witnesses in advance of the hearing with additional instructions on how to provide testimony. All public witnesses will be allowed a maximum of four minutes to testify, while Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners will be permitted five minutes to testify. At the discretion of the Chairs, the length of time provided for oral testimony may be reduced. Witnesses who anticipate needing language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committees of the need as soon as possible but no later than five (5) business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, however requests received in less than five (5) business days may not be fulfilled and alternatives may be offered. The Committees also encourage the public to submit written testimony to be included for the public record. Copies of written testimony should be submitted by e-mail to facilities@dccouncil.us.
