COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COMMITTEE ON LABOR AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004 CHAIRPERSON ELISSA SILVERMAN COMMITTEE ON LABOR AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCES A PUBLIC HEARING ON B24-615, “District Government Paid Leave Enhancement Amendment Act of 2022” B24-53, “District Government Family Bereavement Leave Amendment Act of 2021” Wednesday, March 2, 2022, 2022, 12:30 p.m. Virtual hearing via Zoom Broadcast live online at https://www.facebook.com/elissa.silverman Councilmember Elissa Silverman, Chairperson of the Committee on Labor and Workforce Development, announces a public hearing before the Committee on B24-615, “District Government Paid Leave Enhancement Amendment Act of 2022” and B24-53, “District Government Family Bereavement Leave Amendment Act of 2021.” The hearing will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. B24-615 would enhance the District government’s paid leave program for government employees by expanding the current paid leave program from 8 weeks to 12 weeks maximum. Currently, workers may take up to 8 weeks to welcome a new child or to care for a seriously ill family member. The bill would also incorporate medical leave as part of the paid leave benefits program for workers to care for their own serious health condition, as well as an additional 2 weeks of pre-natal leave. B24-53 would expand the existing bereavement leave program for DC government employees by providing an additional 10 days of leave for workers who suffer the loss of a minor child or a stillbirth. Witnesses may use their phone or computer to participate in this virtual hearing. Those who wish to testify must sign up no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022, by providing their information using the following link: https://forms.gle/7TAbGzcSgYJ6qSFbA Witnesses must provide their name, email address, telephone number, organizational affiliation (if any), and job title (if any), as well whether they require language interpretation or sign language interpretation. Witnesses who require language interpretation or sign language interpretation are asked to complete the form linked above or email the Labor Committee at labor@dccouncil.us no later than Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. The Council’s Office of the Secretary will fulfill timely requests for language interpretation services; however, some requests may not be fulfilled due to vendor availability. On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, the Committee will email witnesses who signed up by Monday, February 28, 2022, in order to provide them with details about how to participate in the hearing via the Zoom platform. Only witnesses who have signed up by the Monday, February 28, 2022, 5:00 pm deadline will be permitted to participate. Those planning to testify are encouraged to submit an electronic copy of written testimony by 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, so that staff may distribute testimonies to Committee members and staff before the hearing. If anyone is unable to testify at the hearing, written statements will be made a part of the official record. Written statements should be submitted by email to labor@dccouncil.us. Additionally, the public may provide testimony by voice mail by calling (202) 455-0153, stating and spelling the witness’s name, stating any organizational affiliation, and speaking slowly to provide a statement to be transcribed and included in the record.
