GRAY, CO-CHAIRPERSON SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON COVID-19 PANDEMIC RECOVERY ANNOUNCE A JOINT PUBLIC OVERSIGHT HEARING ON “TRANSPORTATION ACCESS/REGIONAL TRANSIT, INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS, AND THE EFFECT OF HOUSING CONDITIONS ON HEALTH” TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2021, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM REMOTE HEARING VIA ZOOM STREAMED LIVE ON YOUTUBE AT HTTPS://TINYURL.COM/COHCOVID On Tuesday, October 26, 2021, Councilmembers Charles Allen and Vincent C. Gray, Co- Chairpersons of the Special Committee on COVID-19 Pandemic Recovery will convene a joint public oversight hearing on “Transportation Access/Regional Transit, Infrastructure Investments, and the Effect of Housing Conditions on Health.” The hearing will be held virtually at 10:00 a.m. via the Zoom platform. The purpose of this hearing will be to examine on all aspects of District infrastructure. The Special Committee will focus on transportation access and regional transit in the District, including the following questions: What resources are available at the local, regional, and federal level to support WMATA? How can transit access be expanded to ensure District residents’ access to employment? How can transit recovery be focused on workers and neighborhoods most reliant on public transit? What policies can the District adopt to encourage residents to utilize public transit and to reduce vehicle miles travelled as the District re-opens? In addition, the special committee will discuss how the digital divide and inequitable access to reliable, high-speed internet can be best addressed in order to create universal access, in addition to the transportation infrastructure investments being made or planned for the anticipated shift in continued tele-commuting. Lastly, the hearing will focus on the conditions of District housing as it impacts the health of its residents. Mr. Cameron will e-mail a confirmation of your attendance with an agenda, witness list, and attached instructions for accessing the Zoom video conference hearing by 5:00 p.m. on October 25, 2021. Oral testimony will be strictly limited to three minutes to allow everyone an opportunity to testify. Due to technological limitations during the COVID-19 pandemic, only the first nine hours of the hearing will be broadcasted, however, the Zoom hearing will continue until all witnesses who have signed up have had an opportunity to testify. For accommodation requests, including spoken language or sign language interpretation, please inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but no later than five (5) business days before the proceeding. The Council will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, however requests received in less than five (5) business days may not be fulfilled and alternatives may be offered.
