Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the regular meeting of the Watertown City Council was called to
order in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, by Mayor Mike
Walters.
Councilmembers present: Mike Walters, Dan Schuette, Fred McGuire, Kay Thul, and Adam Pawelk.

City Staff present: City Administrator Jake Foster, Fire Chief Tom Hanson, and Public Services
Superintendent Mike Dressel.
2. Adopt Agenda
COUNCILMEMBER ADAM PAWELK MOVED TO APPROVE CONSENT AGENDA. COUNCILMEMBER
KAY THUL SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED 5-0
3. Consent Agenda Discussion And Approval
COUNCILMEMBER KAY THUL MOVED TO APPROVE CONSENT AGENDA. COUNCILMEMBER ADAM
PAWELK SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED 5-0

4.A. Firefighter Badge Pinning Ceremony
Fire Chief Tom Hanson introduced two new Watertown firefighters, Marty Borowicz and Cassie
DeRosier. Fire Chief Hanson then gave the Oath of Office and held the Pinning ceremony. The council
welcomed Marty and Cassie, thanked them for their service and took a photo.
4.B. Fire Department Update
Fire Chief Tom Hanson introduced two new Watertown firefighters, Marty Borowicz and Cassie
DeRosier. Fire Chief Hanson then gave the Oath of Office and held the Pinning ceremony. The council
welcomed Marty and Cassie, thanked them for their service and took a photo.

5. New/Old Business

5.A. 5A - Pickleball Courts 3 And 4 At Hockey Rink
City Administrator Jake Foster provided updates to the council on quotes that were solicited for bids on
the striping, and new nets to put in an additional two pickleball courts on the hockey rink.

Public Services Superintendent Mike Dressel further added that residents have asked if the tennis
courts can be striped for pickleball. Mike reported that the monies for the tennis courts came from the
U.S. Tennis Association so therefore the courts cannot be used for pickleball, or they would be subject
to having to pay back the money that was given for the tennis courts.

COUNCILMEMBER ADAM PAWELK MOVED TO APPROVE THE NETTING AND STRIPING OF THE
PICKBALL COURTS AT THE HOCKEY RINK. MAYOR MICHAEL WALTERS SECONDED. MOTION
CARRIED 5-0

5.B. 5B - Highland Park Batters Eye And Safety Improvements
Public Services Superintendent Mike Dressel reported on quotes he solicited for bids and received three
back for the purchases of the Batters Eye, fence improvement, additional fence for bullpen and safety
net for foul balls.

PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF THE BATTERS EYE, FENCING AND SAFETY
NET. COUNCILMEMBER ADAM PAWELK SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED 5-0
6. Other Reports
City Administrator Jake Foster reported that there is a Hearing for Request for Tax Exemption for the water
tower on April 3, 2024.
Mayor Mike Walters shared with the council a letter he received from an 8-year-old Gus Bottems asking if
there could be more garbage cans by Rick Johnson Park, and if the City could raise the fine for people who
litter down by the river. Mayor Walters said he wrote Gus back and thanked him for his letter and
concerns.
