Call To Order And Roll Call A 5/28/2024 - Minutes R Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the regular meeting of the Watertown City Council was called to order in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 6:33 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, by Mayor Mike Walters. Councilmembers present: Mayor Mike Walters, Adam Pawelk, Kay Thul and Fred McGuire D Councilmembers absent: Dan Schuette City Staff present: City Administrator Jake Foster, Administrative Service Director Michael Sommerfeld and Fire Chief Tom Hanson. 2. Adopt Agenda COUNCILMEMBER ADAM PAWELK MOVED TO ADOPT THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED. COUNCILMEMBER FRED MCGUIRE SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED 4-0 3. Consent Agenda Discussion And Approval COUNCILMEMBER KAY THUL MOVED TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED. COUNCILMEMBER MCGUIRE SECONDED. Open Forum F 4.A. Carver County Sheriff's Office Update Deputy R.J. Cripps provided a brief update. He also wanted to remind citizens to be sure to lock their cars, doors, and to bring valuables and keys inside, as well as door openers if you park outside. Deputy Cripps also suggested that citizens consider getting exterior cameras, a ring doorbell, or some sort of A exterior camera, as they also help the deputies out a lot. Deputy Cripps went on to mention if you see something, say something. Call the non-emergency number 952-361-1231 and report any suspicious activity. R 4.B. Fire Department Update Chief Tom Hanson gave a brief report on service calls. Chief Hanson also recognized Firefighter Becky Hedin for her 26 years of service with the Watertown D Fire Department. He then turned it over to former Chief Hubie Widmer to say a few words. Hubie Widmer noted it was a privilege of honoring Becky and that he was the fire chief when Becky was welcomed as the first female firefighter in the Watertown Fire Department. He went on to say that Becky was a very active member and was elected as secretary and served well in that position for many years. She also served as a mentor and role model. He thanked her for all her years of service and the standard of excellence that she has set. Chief Hanson then asked the current female firefighters to come up and present Becky with a female firefighter statue. Mayor Walters then also presented Becky with a plaque from the City of Watertown thanking her for her 26 years of dedicated service and leadership to the Watertown Fire Department. 4.C. Elections Update Administrative Services Director Michael Sommerfeld reported on the upcoming elections this year and what happens in Watertown. He said there will be the Primary on August 13th and the General Election on November 5th. Michael also noted that the registration for candidates for any local offices will begin July 30th. There will be no in-person voting for early voting. That can be done through Carver County Government Center for the Primary. 5. New/Old Business 5.A. 5A - Purchase Of Fire Engine Chassis Fire Chief Hanson presented on an option to Council to replace Engine 11, which replacement is due in 2026. Chief Hanson reported that he feels it is in the best interest of the City to possibly look at this  5. Chief Hanson reported that he feels it is in the best interest of the City to possibly look at this option to procure and prepay for a fire engine chassis now and secure one of the pre-emissions motors and potentially save $100,000, if not more at the time of order. He noted that it would take about 12-14 months to build the chassis, and another 12-14 months before they would take physical delivery at our fire station.
