1. Call To Order And Roll Call
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the regular meeting of the Watertown City Council was called to
order in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 6:32 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, by Acting Mayor
Adam Pawelk.
Councilmembers present: Adam Pawelk, Kay Thul and Dan Schuette
Councilmember(s) absent: Mike Walters and Fred McGuire
City staff present: Interim City Administrator Tom Hanson and Administrative Services Director Michael
Sommerfeld
2. Adopt Agenda
Interim City Administrator Hanson made clarification of two late adds as support documentation for the
employment agreement for Dan Tolsma that was finalized, and the canvassing vote totals for the election
that also came in late today.
COUNCILMEMBER KAY THUL MOVED TO ADOPT THE AGENDA.
COUNCILMEMBER DAN SCHUETTE SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED 3-0
3. Consent Agenda Discussion And Approval
Councilmember Thul wanted to thank everyone that served as an election judge. It was a very busy day and
we have some faithful people and some first-timers that came and put in many hours to make sure that it
was a fair and quality election.
Councilmember Pawelk agreed and mentioned that the turnout blew any previous experience I've had with
elections out of the water. It was great to see.

Councilmember Pawelk also added congratulations to our two new city councilmembers who are attending
tonight, Jim and Deb, best of luck to you two. I know you guys will do a good job.
Councilmember Thul also wanted to thank everybody that was part of our search for a new city
administrator. We had people from the community, we put in hours and a lot of time going over resumes,
videos and meeting one-on-one and I think we made a good choice.
Councilmember Pawelk added we look forward to our new administrator starting January 6th.

Administrative Services Director Michael Sommerfeld noted that there will be a Special Meeting held next
Tuesday, November 19th to handle business that would have been conducted tonight but were in question
of whether or not we would have a quorum.
Interim City Administrator Hanson wanted to remind council and the community that we will be having a
Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Water Tower this Friday, November 15th behind Speedway at 10:30 a.m.
Also, in attendance will be greatly enhanced by Senator Glenn Gruenhagen and Representative Bobbi
Harder, who both were instrumental in getting us some funding and some sales tax exemptions for a lot of
our utility projects here in town.
