VILLAGE OF WAUNAKEE Parks and Recreation Committee September 4, 2013 The September 4, 2013 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting was called to order by chairman Chris Zellner at 5:445 pm. PRESENT: Brian Hauke, John Pomeranke, Mark Mathwig, Chris Zellner, Brian Malich, and Gary Herzberg. ALSO PRESENT: Sue McDade - Community Services Director, Mike Endres – Parks Supervisor Bill Frederick – Streets Supervisor, Jeff Skoug – Recreation Supervisor. Westbridge Developer – don Tierney. Residents - Dave Jost and Dan Lawrence. MINUTES A motion by Brian Hauke/Mark Mathwig to approve the minutes of the August 7, 2013 Park and Recreation Committee meetings was approved. PUBLIC COMMENT There was no public comment NEW BUSINESS 1. Consider Phase 2 Improvements for Westbridge Park The committee reviewed the conversation regarding potential park improvements from the August meeting. Jeff Skoug spoke about the appropriate sizing for a baseball field in this park as well as the need for open play space. Neighbor Dave Jost asked that placement of ball fields take into account the affect that might come into play for the closest neighbors. There was a considerable amount of discussion relating to the need for more parking within the park. Don Tierney offered the idea of placing approximately 40 new parking stalls on the north side of the park – off of Kopp Road. Sue McDade explained to the committee that the placement of parking along this road would definitely need to be reviewed by the Village’s engineering/tech staff review team. When asked about the timing for the Phase 2 improvements, Don indicated that the ball diamond could be roughed in this fall, finished in the spring to be playable in 2014. A motion was made by Gary Herzberg/Mark Mathwig to approve the phase 2 improvements for Westbridge Park to include a youth baseball field on the southern side of the park and graded and seeded space to be used for open-space play fields. The inclusion of approximately 40 additional parking stalls is also a priority for the committee.
