The September 2, 2015 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting was called to order by Gary Herzberg at
5:45 pm.
PRESENT: Phil Willems, Gary Herzberg, Chris Zellner, Dave Jost, Susan Brown and Brian Malich.
ALSO PRESENT: Sue McDade - Community Services Director, Bill Frederick, Public Works/Streets
Superintendent, Rick Moran – Public Works/Parks Forman, Jeff Skoug – Recreation Supervisor.
MINUTES
A motion by Phil Willems/Chris Zellner to approve the minutes of the May 6, 2015 Park
and Recreation Committee meetings was approved.
REPORTS
Sue McDade gave a report on the creation of an RFP for professional planning services to update the
Village’s Comprehensive Park and Outdoor Recreation Plan and the Waunakee-Westport Bicycle and
Pedestrian Plan in 2016. This work will be managed in conjunction with updates to the Comprehensive
Plans for both the Village and the Town of Westport.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Consider the Purchase and Installation of Snow Track System for the Polaris Ranger
A motion by Susan Brown/Phil Willems to recommend approval of the purchase and
installation of the snow tracks on the Polaris Ranger was approved.
2. Consider Project to Pave the East Portion of the Centennial Park Path
A motion by Dave Jost/Chris Zellner not to fund the paving of the Centennial Park Path
at this time was approved.
The committee directed staff to ask that the project be included in the 2016 street project bids as an
alternate – with the potential for reconsideration depending upon the updated costs. Funding from the
2015 Parks PAYG Fund will not be carried forward for this project.
3. Consider Proposal for 2016 July 4th Festival in Ripp Park
Chris Zellner shared with the committee his idea for a family-friendly July 4th Celebration that he hopes
to host in Ripp Park next summer. This would be a one-day event including food, music, kick ball,
bounce houses and culminating with fireworks. With the committee’s blessing, he will continue to work
on the details of the event with the assistance of the Chamber of Commerce and return to the October
meeting for final consideration.
