VILLAGE OF WAUNAKEE Parks and Recreation Committee December 7, 2016 The December 7, 2016 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting was called to order by Phil Willems at 5:45 pm. This was a joint meeting of the Westport and Waunakee Committees. PRESENT: Phil Willems, Susan Brown, John Pomeranke, Dave Jost, Brian Malich and Gary Herzberg. ALSO PRESENT: Members of the Westport Park Committee, Andrew Bremer and Amber Converse – MSA Professional Services, Sue McDade - Community Services Director, Jeff Skoug – Recreation Supervisor, and Rick Moran – Public Works/Streets Forman. JOINT MEETING BUSINESS 1. Waunakee and Westport Park Committees Meet Jointly to Discuss Updates to the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan. Andrew Bremer reviewed for the committee the final steps in completing the CORP Plan. Comments were reviewed from the recent public information meeting. Amber Converse then presented a product called “Story Maps” – a new way to market park facilities and amenities. A motion by Gary Herzberg/Phil Willems to recommend that the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan be forwarded on and approved at the public hearing scheduled for January 9, 2017 was approved. VILLAGE OF WAUNAKEE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE BUSINESS MINUTES A motion by John Pomeranke / Phil Willems to approve the minutes of the October 5, 2016 Park and Recreation Committee meetings was approved. NEW BUSINESS 1. Consider Soccer Tournament Request – Waunakee Area Soccer Club Waunakee Soccer Club is requesting the use of Ripp Park for the Waunakee Cup on August 25 – 27, 2017. A similar tournament was held in 2016 and was well managed by the club – but there was some damage to the park in part due to excessive rain. The DPW /Parks staff asked the committee to consider stronger language relating to the cancellation of play if similar conditions exist in 2017. A motion was made by Phil Willems / Dave Jost to approve the WASC tournament to be hosted August 25-27, 2017 in Ripp Park. Regular shelter fees will apply plus a refundable damage deposit of $700. Games will be called if field conditions become unsafe and/or turf areas are in danger of being torn up from play, or if there is an inch or more of rain in a 24 hour period.
