NEW BUSINESS 1. Presentation from Dr. Means, Wauwatosa School District Superintendent 23-1237 1. Dr. Means explained school board DEI goals and percentages a) 24% students receive subsidized federal lunch b) 14-15% students have special needs c) 66% students are white d) 44% Black, Asian, and Multiethnic 2. Dr. Means detailed some pain points in achieving DEI goals in Wauwatosa Schools: a) Difficulty hiring teachers of color in WI districts 1) Dr. Means proposed that the city of Wauwatosa create a good compensation package, reach out to teachers when they are students, and offer internship programs 2) Lack of budget for schools 3) Maintenance issues for schools Page 1 of 2 Equity and Inclusion Commission Meeting Minutes - Final December 7, 2023 RESULT: INFORMATIONAL ONLY 2.
