Anyone can make an open records request.
3. Open Meetings - Quorum 24-0272
4. Communication (emails) 24-0273
It is fine to send emails to other commission members, but there shouldn’t be a discussion about
a topic that will be voted on. Best practice is to send email to members as BCC to avoid that
possibility. Avoid using “Reply All” when responding.
All emails sent or received by staff are archived by the City.
SENIOR COMMISSION DISCUSSION
1. Purpose, Duties and Responsibilities (City Ord. 2.28.020) 24-0275
Dain suggested several things for the commissioners to discuss in the near future.
Need for a secretary.
2. Officers (Mayor designates chairperson and vice chairperson, City Ord. 24-0274
2.28.010 A.)
3. 2024 Priorities 24-0276
The last question resulted in a robust discussion regarding pending actions by the Wauwatosa
School Board and their effect on seniors in Wauwatosa. The conclusion of this discussion was
that the Senior Commission needs to know what is going on and be prepared to advocate and
inform citizens, per our mission. Dain will share the Senior Commission annual report with all
members and invite Keith Brightman, the business manager for the school district, to our next
meeting. Mike Meier will email the PowerPoint shared with the school board regarding a
possible referendum on the November, 2024 ballot.
Dain also commented on the need for the Senior Commission to share their thoughts during the
development of the new Comprehensive Plan that is going on now.
4. Sub Committees 24-0277
Do ad hoc groups need to follow the open meeting rules? Do we continue the Health and
Wellness group? Do we want/need any additional subgroups?
5. Community Outreach and Volunteers (Community Fair, etc.) 24-0278
Volunteers will be needed for the Community Fair to be held on June 15,2024 at Wauwatosa
West High School.
SENIOR SERVICES, PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITY UPDATES
1. Eras Neighborhood Outreach 24-0279
Vanessa Harris reminded us of the upcoming fundraisers for ERAS - Battle of the Bartenders,
March 5 at the Pfister and Tapestry on April 25 at the Brookfield Conference center which is
located south of the south end of the Brookfield Square parking lot and shared Q4 usage

statistics.
2. Senior Center/Senior Club 24-0280
Kosta provided updates about the remodel at Hart Park. He reported that there will not be lunch
service during the remodel; diners have been told about locations where they can have lunch
until Hart Park is completed. The final schedule/location of classes and activities will be
available soon. Kosta will provide a link to a video that has been shown on Channel 10
featuring the artists of Hart Park Senior Center. He asked that any questions we get or have
about the remodeling changes be directed to him.
3. Police Department Update 24-0281
Laura Laurishke reported on the police participation in delivering and making Valentine cards
for seniors. She also informed us that the police department is not currently providing police
services to the Emergency Department of Froedtert Hospital due to ongoing staffing shortages.
This applies to the Emergency Department only.
4. Health Department and Age-Friendly Update 24-0282
Carmen announced that the Health Department will hold a Narcan clinic on March 7 in the
lower level Civic center room. She also reported that she and Kristen Hecht will be presenting
at the Aging, Disability and Living Independently conference in LaCrosse in April, 2024.
Carmen also asked that we have a future discussion about a traffic death which recently
occurred near San Camillo in Wauwatosa.
5. Housing Coalition Update 24-0283
Kathy reported the Joint Housing Coalition is adding two additional members from the
Sustainability Committee to the coalition. The member groups all have overlapping interests so
this was deemed to be a logical addition to the group. The group has been and will continue
their involvement in the comprehensive plan process going on now.
6. Common Council Update 24-0284
Ernie Franzen updated the group on the work of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee.
He also reported that the Committee of the Whole will hear a presentation about a new
municipal complex.
