Announcements and upcoming activites/events 24-1378 None shared. RESULT: INFORMATIONAL ONLY 2. Electrification presentation to Council 24-1379 Page 1 of 2 Sustainability Committee Meeting Minutes - Final October 2, 2024 Seth Flanders, Zoe Hastert, Steve Ostrenga, and Mike Arney created an outline of the presentation, but will be meeting separately to add content. Main message is that electrification is key to achieving the City’s 2050 sustainability goal. Mike Arney will contact Steve Braatz and Jim Archambo to identify possible dates and secure a spot on the Council’s meeting agenda . RESULT: INFORMATIONAL ONLY 3. WLGCC update 24-1380 Heather Deaton plans to attend the WLGCC conference on October on behalf of the committee . Additional conferences and meetings in 2025 include Better Buildings/Better Plants (April 30-May 2, 2025; Washington DC); Midwest Climate Summit (April 30-May 2, 2025: St. Louis) “Elevate” database is a good resource for policy and regulations and information for property owners https://www.elevatenp.org. Final draft of Wisconsin’s comprehensive climate plan is due to USEPA in December . RESULT: INFORMATIONAL ONLY 4. Outreach recap/expenses 24-1381 Tosa Green Summit was successful. WSC members spoke with approximately 50 attendees. Zoe Hastert suggested organizing a family event at the library with age-appropriate movies or documentaries with environmental or sustainability themes. She asked for recommendations of films from other committee members and will work with library staff to identify dates. RESULT: INFORMATIONAL ONLY 5. Housing coalition updates 24-1383 Mike Arney shared the Coalition’s input on the City’s comprehensive plan . Deadline for comments is this week. RESULT: INFORMATIONAL ONLY 6. Schools update 24-1382 Net Zero task force was approved by the school board . A call for volunteers was made online. Several WSC members have applied or will apply prior to the deadline in mid-October . Jill McClellan will reach out to former WSC member Mary Young to learn about options for composting in the schools . RESULT: INFORMATIONAL ONLY 7. Sustainability web page/social post via City 24-1384 No update. Heather Deaton agreed to spearhead a content plan based on discussions with Zoe Hastert, and Rob Zimmerman in September.
