ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES MEETING DATE: Tuesday September 13, 2016 PLACE: City Hall – Second Floor Conference Room MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: 7:32 a.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT NAME PRESENT (ARRIVED LATE) ABSENT John Ahearn X Lauren Bakker-Arkema X Marilynne Bradley X Kathie Cahoon X Don Drissell X Melody Evans-Mess X Nina Ferrigno X Judith Mann X Sarah Riss X ALSO PRESENT Mayor Gerry Welch, Council Liaison Jennifer Conrad, Staff Liaison APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Ms. Mann, seconded by Ms. Cahoon, to approve the minutes of August 23, 2016, as amended to add member Sarah Riss to the Roll Call. AYES: AHEARN, BAKKER, CAHOON, DRISSELL, EVANS, FERRIGNO, MANN, RISS NOES: NONE ABSENT: BRADLEY The August 23, 2016 minutes were approved as amended. JOHN MEDWEDEFF SUBCOMMITTEE Mr. Drissell stated that the subcommittee met and looked at Barbre Park, Ruhe Park, the Sculpture Garden, and the intersection of I-44 and Elm as potential locations for a Medwedeff piece. The Commission discussed pros and cons of each area, and assigned members to gather information on feasibility. Mr. Ahearn asked about percent taxes for the arts. For the October meeting, the Commission will discuss ways to pursue City funding. Ms. Ferrigno asked about the Sharks in the Park display discussed at the August meeting. This will also be a topic for discussion at the October meeting. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS RECEPTION The Commission discussed speakers for the event. Ms. Conrad will advise the Commission when invitations arrive for assistance with addressing. Mayor Welch stated that she’s looking into getting envelopes for donations to the Public Art Fund. The Commission stated that posters with what the Commission has done and where they want to go would be good for the event as well. The next regular meeting is October 4, 2016 at 7:30 a.m. in the Second Floor Conference Room at City Hall. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:31 a.m.
