ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES MEETING DATE: Tuesday July 2, 2019 PLACE: City Hall – Police Conference Room MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: 7:32 a.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT NAME PRESENT (ARRIVED LATE) ABSENT John Ahearn X Lauren Bakker-Arkema X Marilynne Bradley X Kathie Cahoon X Beth Corelli X Don Drissell X Judith Mann X Patrick Murphy X Jan Shapiro X ALSO PRESENT Mayor Gerry Welch Jennifer Conrad, Staff Liaison APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Ms. Mann, seconded by Ms. Bakker, to approve the minutes of June 4, 2019, as corrected to add emphasis to how well the Barbre Park event went. AYES: AHEARN, BAKKER, BRADLEY, CAHOON, DRISSELL, MANN, MURPHY NOES: NONE ABSENT: CORELLI, SHAPIRO The June 4, 2019 minutes were approved. SUMMER CONCERT SERIES The concert on August 24 will have a piano theme. Carolbeth True will be playing. Ms. Bradley suggested a paint out at the event. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS Mr. Murphy spoke with recipient Mary Engelbreit. The Commission discussed the possibility of holding the event on either October 18 or 25. The Commission again discussed hosting the event at the Green Door Gallery. Members will visit the location and investigate the setup. Mr. Drissell stated that he would like some sort of plaque or other way to recognize all recipients. NEW SCULPTURE PLACEMENT Mayor Welch stated that she purchased a piece at the Art Fair in June. The Commission discussed the potential for reimbursement and locations for the piece. Locations discussed included the Sculpture Garden, Crossroads, City Hall, and a median on Lockwood. Commission members are invited to stop by Mayor Welch’s yard to see the piece. CITY OF THE ARTS LOGO USAGE The Commission discussed the possibility of placing the City of the Arts logo on shirts and/or stickers. Ms. Cahoon will speak with Embroider the Occasion about this possibility. Mayor Welch will speak with the City Attorney regarding logo usage. MISCELLANEOUS UPDATES Mr. Ahearn attended the reception for the Library Photo contest and the Rudy sculpture. The Commission discussed the recently approved budget for Fiscal Year 2020. The next meeting of the Commission will be Tuesday, August 6 at 7:30 a.m. in the Second Floor Conference Room ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 a.m.
