REGULAR MEETING: 1. Approval of Minutes – September 20, 2017 a. Mike McClorey moved to approve the Sept. 20, 2017 minutes. Anne Kelly seconded the motion and all HPC concurred. The Sept. 20, 2017 minutes were approved. 2. Welcome Amanda Clark – a. The HPC welcomed Amanda Clark, newest member of the HPC. 3. Consideration as a City-designated Landmark a. 604 Fair Oaks (Lustron Home) i. Mike Harney informed the HPC that this homeowner is in favor of nomination as a designated landmark. Modifications have been made to the home and Mike stated that he will go by and see the extent of the modifications. If nominated, the siding on the home would likely have to be removed. Anne Kelly moved for consideration of 604 Fair Oaks for nomination. Barbara Homeier seconded the motion and all other HPC members voted in favor. b. 322 Clark Ave i. This home already bears a century plaque. The homeowner submitted extensive paperwork regarding noteworthy historical figures who allegedly resided or visited the property, the interesting and colorful history of the home generally. Criteria for designation as a landmark can be established where a home has unique features, 1  including those relating to noteworthy people who lived there. Mike McClorey moved to nominate 322 Clark for further review for consideration. Amanda Clark seconded the motion and all others voted in favor. 4. Potential nominations a. 546 N Elm Ave (Stancil) i. This is the Douglas Manor property. 11 houses. 8 owners have been reached and are in favor unless nomination would be an imposition upon them. The final element is funding and availableCity property on which the plaque or designation could be placed, to wit: “site of Douglas School” or something along those lines. Bill Stancil suggested the sidewalks as a possible location. b. Lustron Homes (Keitel) i. The owner of 208 W. Watson informed the HPC that she is interest in historical designation. 101 Eldridge is opposed to being nominated. Mike Harney will look into 208 W. Watson and also 604 Fair Oaks and 322 Clark Ave (see items #3(a) and (b), supra) and HPC will discuss and consider at next meeting. c. Sears Homes (Murphy) i. Patrick Murphy indicated to Mike Harney that he has made moderate progress on this front. New HPC member Amanda Clark has significant education and knowledge with regard to “kit” homes and historical architecture generally and offered to join Patrick Murphy and Anne Kelly in efforts to develop and evaluate the “kit” home subject as basis for potential nominations, perhaps to expand or revise the topic to encompass other builders of historical interest, i.e. Joy or others. 5. Lecture Series a. Committee (Murphy) b. Dates i. Lecture will proceed on October 25, 2017 as planned. c. Grant i. Mike Harney reports that we got the grant, but topics have not yet been approved. OTHER BUSINESS: 1. Tuxedo Park Historic District a. This was former member Elyse McBride’s “project.” Amanda Clark and Anne Kelly offered to take over. Anne will contact Elyse about getting a copy of her research and findings to date. 2. Landmark/Historic District Tree a. Bill Stancil took this over from Elyse McBride. Work is ongoing. 3. Other business a. None Mike McClorey moved to adjourn the meeting. Bill Stancil seconded the motion and all approved.
