Meeting Minutes

REGULAR MEETING:
1. Approval of May 17, 2021 Minutes – motion to approve by Steven Stovall; second by Michael Rose
2. Visitor comments – Dave Buck discussed the Douglass Hill project and whether the HPC would under
their purview comment on the project. Dave wanted to make sure the HPC were aware of the history of
the property including the original Porter’s Subdivision and Shady Creek. He discussed the Vinegar Hill
name as well as the educational history of the first school for black students in St. Louis County. Members
asked for Dave to provide what information he had on the history to him. Jane Porchey mentioned that
she had heard concerns about the Baptist Church being protected from the development and flooding.
Mara Perry answered some questions about the process of the rezoning and the protections that would
happen to both the church and the national register structure on the southwest corner of the development
area. This topic was moved to the July meeting to further discuss. Members discussed the option of a
statement from the HPC as a group to forward onto the Plan Commission.
PUBLIC HEARINGS:
a. None
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Election of Secretary – Postponed to next month to have more members present.
2. HPC Projects for 2021-2022 - members discussed all the various potential projects listed on the agenda.
Focus was on a possible new “walk” with the Lustron Homes and Sears Kit homes. Members were going
to continue to review the information in the packets and discuss further at the next meeting. Steven
Stovall stated he has been gathering some information on the Joy Built homes and would like to pass
that information onto someone who might be able to do further research.
3. Mara Perry stated we will stay on Zoom for the July meeting but should be able to go back to meeting in
person for the August meeting. The room is being set up to do hybrid meetings.

Jane Porchey moved to adjourn the meeting; Brendan Barash seconded; passed by unanimous vote.
