Old Orchard Special Business District Advisory Commission MEETING MINUTES APPROVED MEETING DATE: Tuesday, August 8, 2017 LOCATION: City Hall CALLED TO ORDER: 8:04 AM MEETING ADJOURNED: 8:21 AM NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, September 12, 2017 NAME PRESENT ABSENT Joe Fichter, Chair X Angel Venegoni X Claire Winkler X Mary Jane Armstrong X Steve Scheipeter X Holland Saltsman X Robert Weber X John Barr X Steve Zielinski X Frank Janoski, Council Liaison X Mara Perry, City Liaison X Also in attendance: Fran Sudekum – Administrative Support APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve the July minutes as was made by Angel Venegoni, seconded by Steve Scheipeter, motion was unanimously approved. PARKING • The City’s attorney is working out the agreement with Bethesda to turn over the strip of parking spaces behind the businesses on the north side of Big Bend (North Old Orchard east) as City public parking. Once complete signs will go up stating a three-hour parking restriction. • New signs will go up on the North Old Orchard public lot indicating the lot is for customer and employees only. • Mara Perry shared a draft letter from the Commission to Nerinx Hall outlining the various parking changes in the District. The President of Nerinx Hall, John Gabriel, is aware of and supports these changes; Mara will ask him to endorse the letter before it’s sent to the Nerinx student body and their parents. • Mr. Gabriel also offered to help pay for additional parking restriction enforcement; details on how that would occur will need to be worked out. ST. LOUIS CVC MEMBERSHIPS AND RENEWALS Businesses in the District have only sent in three so far; the deadline has passed, but Mara will ask for an extension. CITY UPDATE • Half and Half will be opening soon in Old Webster. • A new nail salon will be opening on Allen in Old Webster. • Former YMCA location potential re-zoning is before the Planning Commission. • A new resale and home goods shop is going into the former optical boutique location in Old Webster at Gore and Moody. • Several new residential homes are in the works. • Social Media: The Explore Webster Groves Facebook page will be doing posts tied to the “National Days” calendar, i.e. National Book Day. Photos of local businesses will be taken and used in these posts to tie into the national day. The hashtag “#ExploreWebsterGroves” will be used on all posts. Plans are underway to establish an Explore Webster Groves Instagram account. NEXT MEETING Tuesday September 12, 2017 at 8:00 AM – City Hall. ADJOURNED Meeting adjourned at 8:21 AM
