VISITOR COMMENTS • Unified Commercial Trash Contractor – the representative was unable to come to this meeting. • Paul Verheyen came to discuss sidewalk options and the costs of those options. The first option would be having the same look at the current asphalt pavers. Verheyen showed images of exposed aggregate in black. Matching the existing would include a two foot section along the street with a band around the trees. If pavers are used they would have to have at least four inches of concrete and concrete would need to be out under a paver option. Verheyen gave the costs of the exposed aggregate at $122 a square yard. Just the work to install it would be around $77,000. If they replace all of the sidewalks in addition to the banding – the cost would be over $1 million. $589,000 if it was all replaced with basic plain concrete. The Handicapped ramps would be replaced by City Staff where possible which could decrease the costs. Funding will be an issue but a plan needs to be in place for areas that need to be replaced in the future. Issues have come up with excavating for utility repair and for trees pulling up sections of the sidewalk. The existing asphalt pavers can not be replaced. Commission members stated they would prefer not to do this in small sections. If so, the work would need to be  contracted out. The work contracted out would be more expensive. City Staff have too many other projects booked right now with neighborhood sidewalks and handicapped updates to do the business district right now. Options for funding discussed looking into a percentage coming from the building owners. There was a discussion about two locations where cones were left in the sidewalk. Verheyen. OLD BUSINESS • Unified Commercial Trash Contractor – No update. • Sidewalk Sub-Committee – The handout of items from Verheyen will be scanned and distributed for the next meeting. NEW BUSINESS • Discussion of bicycles riding on the sidewalks in Old Webster was discussed. There have been some accidents with bikes traveling at a fast speed. No people have been hurt at this time. It is a concern to be aware of for the future. There is also concern over skateboarders in and around the parking garage. • Kids have been found loitering inside the Novus building and doing damage. • Amanda Payne will be out starting in October on Maternity leave. CITY UPDATE • Budget update – Money has been held from the previous year’s budget for the building lighting project. • City Staff updated that the Plan Commission is considering changes to the residential sections of the City Zoning Code. • BDC meeting where chairs of the three business districts had been invited was cancelled due to lack of quorum. The meeting will be held on Thursday July 28th. Tim Delanty offered to attend the BDC meeting in addition to the Chair. • An update on Auto Beauty and their progress to remove the auto repair from the Old Webster location was given. • Staff updated the status of parking garage repairs and funding in the budget for those improvements.
