VISITOR COMMENTS Detective Fred Bell will be giving a talk at the February Old Webster Trade Association meeting on safety tips for businesses. He is also available to conduct safety assessments with individual businesses and provide suggestions and tips. PARKING UPDATE Council-approved upgraded construction of the Moody lot is complete; first few rows are for church use, last two rows are for the Boy Scout trailer and the Book Bus, remaining are for employees of the District. The next negotiation of the lease will include a first right of approval on purchase of the lot if ever sold. ROOFTOP LIGHTING UPDATE Stribe Electric needs to do some maintenance to replace old bulbs, check dust-to-dawn sensor at C.J. Muggs location, and secure loose strand at Werremeyer location. BUDGET Commission members reviewed three budget documents provided by Mara Perry in order to establish a current base of understanding and enable a look forward to the next budget year. Items of discussion included: revenue figures and their sources, a timeline of the budget process, a potential increase in recycling fees, breakdown of expenses covered in the #830 Advertising Category, increasing support of the Jazz Fest by $1,200 to cover loss of sound system use, agreement to continue support of the Summer Night Street Dance, dropping the informational kiosk project, moving forward with new fall and spring banners, and the need for improvement in holiday decorations next year as this year’s design was lacking. Discussion will continue next month with updated current revenue and expense figures. NEW BUSINESS Commission Members raised the following concerns: • Traffic concern of fast-moving vehicles exiting the private parking lot of the apartment complex next to the Webster Garden Café; the property owner will be asked to remind its tenants of the safety concern. • Future parking restriction enforcement with the departure of the part-time traffic officer who was handling those duties. • Loss of the private parking spaces and the addition of construction-worker parking needs once work begins on the former Gerber Chapel location. COUNCIL UPDATE The new Webster Groves Community Engagement Board is looking for a Webster Groves business owner to join the board. Commission Members were asked to help let business owners know of the need. CITY UPDATE • Firenza Pizza in Old Webster is open. • Ziggy’s Frozen Treats in Old Webster should be open soon; they are co-located with Firenza Pizza. • Layla in Old Webster will get final permits next month. • Balkan Treat Box in Old Orchard should be open soon. • The project in Old Webster at the former Gerber Chapel location’s site plan is approved, tree preservation almost approved, demolition will start soon. • The Rolling Ridge project in Old Webster is on hold until March or April. • The project at the former YMCA location’s tree preservation is approved, demolition should start soon, the lawsuit has been dropped. • The adult day care business at Elm and Big Bend in Crossroads is moving out and medical offices will take over the space. • A cell tower in Old Webster is at the Planning Commission. • Adopting code changes for noise and other elements in all C and E Commercial districts is before City Council. • Addressing commercial-type group homes is before City Council. • Zoning work continues on mini cell towers. • The project in Old Webster at the former Auto Beauty location has exterior questions at ARB. • Discussions on impacts of home-based businesses on the surround residents have started. • Discussions on addressing medical marijuana will need to begin soon.
