OLD BUSINESS • Winter Market – Based on the success of the outdoor Walktober Weekend event last month, the Old Webster Trade Association is moving forward with the Winter Market in November following the same outdoor format as the Walktober Weekend and open to all businesses in the District to participate. • Holiday Window Walk – Taking advantage of businesses that put up holiday decorations for the Winter Market and expanding on that to a Holiday Window Walk in December has been discussed, but it’s organization and logistics have yet to be worked out. • Lamppost Decorations – Winter banners, new garland, and new red bows will be going up on the lampposts November 1st. 1 of 2 • Rooftop Lighting – The new Regions Bank may be interested in participating in the rooftop lighting program. Now that renovations have been completed on Morry Cole’s building on Gore, he might also be interested in participating. Mara Perry will reach out to both as well as any other building owner/business that are interested. • Voices of Businesses Diversity Dialogue – Mark Hinkle, Ron Clipp, and Gary Schoenberger met with Police Chief Dale Curtis. The meeting went well. It was very informative and exceeded their expectations. Based on information shared by Chief Curtis, we have a positive story that just needs to be shared to correct any negative image we may have. They felt Chief Curtis wants to police the way our community wants them too and focus on the things our community want them to focus on and is always looking to improve. Mark is having a diversity committee meeting with his employees and Detective Fred Bell will take part in that meeting. Engaging Detective Bell in an ongoing basis should be embraced by other business owners. David Franklin shared the City Council is taking under review of the City’s diversity and inclusion policies and procedures. • Highway Historic Information Signs – A review of the status of the brown “historic” signs on Highway 44 was shared. MoDOT has discontinued the signs. For a $3K installation fee and an annual $2K fee, a smaller thumbnail version can be added to the existing MoDOT informational signs along with other paid thumbnails sharing space on the sign. The City of Webster opted not to do the small fee-based informational sign. CITY UPDATE • The amendment to change the ordinance for the second building on the Regions Bank site in Old Webster to add a small coffee shop has been approved. • The ordinance change for Pacific Place in Old Orchard has been approved. • The Annex in Old Orchard is open. • Union Studio in Old Orchard is open. • Dharma & Dwell in Old Orchard will be opening soon. • Union Bagels in Crossroads is moving forward. • City Staff is working with a new urgent care business for the corner of Big Bend and Laclede Station Road and a new business at Big Bend and Oakwood. • The Plan Commission is working on amendments to the residential code in A4 areas to allow smaller two-family residences. • Allowing placement of political signs at polling places on election day that are on public property has been updated.
