Old Webster Special Business District Advisory Commission MEETING MINUTES APPROVED MEETING DATE: Tuesday December 1, 2020 LOCATION: City Hall CALLED TO ORDER: 8:01 AM MEETING ADJOURNED: 8:35 AM NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, January 26, 2021 NAME PRESENT ABSENT Ron Clipp, Chair X Joe Rath X Mark Hinkle X Tim Delanty X Micki Hansel X Gary Schoenberger X Margaret Stevens X Bill Newhouse X Stacie Swederska X David Franklin, Council Liaison X Mara Perry, City Liaison X Also, in attendance: Fran Sudekum – Administrative Support APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve the October minutes was made by Joe Rath, seconded by Gary Schoenberger, and unanimously approved. HOLIDAY UPDATES BDC Promotions – • A new video promoting shopping and dining during the holidays is up on KMOV and on the Explore Webster Groves Facebook page. • The Explore WG Facebook page also has two contests running during the holidays to promote engagement. • The two student videos produced by the Webster University Video Production Class thru the BDC will also be shared. • KEZK Radio will have a very short “Santa Parade” thru Webster Groves at 3 o’clock on December 9th starting at Big Bend and Laclede Station Road and travel west thru the Old Orchard Business District, then thru the Old Webster Business District. District Holiday Window Walk – The event has been stripped down and is no longer a formal walk. Businesses in Old Webster have been encouraged to light up and decorate their places of businesses for the holidays. Patrons will be encouraged to 1 of 2 come to the District to shop, dine, and “view” via the District’s social media as well as on social media platforms of individua businesses, as well as with a printed ad in the Webster-Kirkwood Times. District 2nd Floor Candles – Mara Perry has the candles; she needs volunteers to help put the batteries and distribute the candles. She did not get the ones back last year from those at the Reliable Life however. Bill Newhouse and Ron Clipp volunteered to help. It was suggested instructions be provided with the candles to self-stored to be ready for next year. District Decorations – The Parks Department has some new holiday decorations to add to those of previous years. This year’s additions are various life-size holiday characters throughout Webster Groves. Those in Old Webster are carolers with cut out faces for photo ops. Rooftop Lighting – Regions Bank is interested in participating in the rooftop lighting program, just waiting to receive their confirmation. Rolling Ridge Nursery is also interested, need to follow up with them. CITY UPDATE • The Annex in Old Orchard is completely open. • Dharma & Dwell in Old Orchard has opened. • CBD in Old Orchard has closed, and a pop-up jewelry store will be in that location for a short period of time. • Still working with Union Bagels in Crossroads. • Le Macaron’s funding has come thru and is moving forward with the location in Old Webster. • Working with a new urgent care business for the corner of Big Bend and Laclede Station Road; they only got one of the two variances they asked for and will need to some redesigning. • Working with an exciting new tenant for a location in Old Orchard at Big Bend and Oakwood. • The Plan Commission continues working on amendments to the residential code in A4 areas and two-family residences.
