ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT
PARKS
Barbre Park construction is scheduled to start in March. We have raised about $100,000 towards the
sculpture. Still need about $75,000.
GRG is underway with the construction of the Deer Creek Trail. They are way ahead of schedule. This first
part of construction went very smoothly. Now that we have reached Pacific Avenue, where the trail turns to
sidewalk and goes in front of all the houses we are running into some slowdowns as we make sure the home
owners are taken care of during this construction.
The Marshall Avenue Trailhead phase 2 construction will begin in March. The new park should be deeded to
the City and open by end of summer.
Southwest Park renovations have been approved by Council. Work should be completed sometime this
summer.
RECREATION
Since our last meeting, new cardio equipment was installed.
We were given notification that our current concession stand provider was not going to renew her contract.
We looked into a bunch of different ideas including food trucks and running the service ourselves. We are
recommending accepting a contractual bid proposal from Food Corp. They current provide service to the St.
Louis County North County Recreation Complex and another smaller outdoor venue. We are excited for this
new partnership. We are looking into ways to change the layout that would allow more hot vending for times
when the stands are not staffed.
We will also be doing about $50,000 worth of pool concrete repairs before the season opens. We are trying to
fix any broken slabs we have on the deck, as well as solve a couple issues with tile and caulk on some of the
pool walls.
A new slide is scheduled to be installed before the pool season opens too. It will be a translucent tube so you
can see people as they come down the slide. We think it should be pretty cool. Same layout as the current
slide.
It is full on budget season for us right now. If you have any ideas you would like to share with us or things you
think we should implement now would be the perfect time to share. Feel free to email me any ideas you might
come up with over the next couple of days.
A few of us will be attending the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association annual conference next week.
I made a presentation to the City Council this Tuesday night for our recommended proposal for this year’s
Muni Park Grant. We are eligible for up to $475,000. We have proposed renovating four of the tennis courts
at Memorial Park, removing four court and the skate park, and install a new parking lot next to the pool. The
parking lot would allow us to not only have additional parking and a new safer drop off and pick up location
for the ball fields, but also more hard surface to host the Lions Club carnival. We have not been able to reach
an agreement for a long-term commitment to jointly host the carnival on City and WGSD parking lots. This
new parking lot would allow us to host the carnival just on City property. In addition, the needs of recreation
tennis are fully served with just four tennis courts. Only four courts would not service the needs of the varsity
tennis teams that currently practice and play on the Memorial Courts.
