III. OLD BUSINESS
A. Break-ins- Chief Rollins reported that we are still continuing to have problems with
thefts and break-ins. A split shift has been implemented with a third officer on the street.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
A. New Employees- Chief Rollins recommending hiring two park-time dispatchers:
Joslyn M. Erienmeyer and Kelly S. Spence at $12.00 per hour. He also recommended the
employment of Joshua D. Poling as a part-time officer at $14.00 per hour. Mayor
O’Keefe felt all of the positions should be advertised in the newspaper to make sure we
get the best candidates. Solicitor Bond also indicated that an advertisement would ensure
all minorities are aware of the openings. Mr. Rollins will advertise in the Enterprise and
Chronicle and come back with a recommendation at a special meeting on January 26,
2009.
B. Discussion on Wellington Township Policing-Township Trustee Virginia Hayes
addressed the committee on the concept of Wellington Police Department policing
Wellington Township. Mr. Maurer questioned if we had jurisdiction. Solicitor Bond
presented copies of ORC 737.04 concerning mutual aid contracts for police protection
and allows for policing contracts between government entities. Chief Rollins presented a
cost estimate ($280,000.00) that would cover the costs for a full-time officer,
cruiser/maintenance/gas and dispatch services. Mr. Wells suggested we find out how
many calls the township gets in a year to get a better estimate of costs. Discussion
followed on the present mutual aid services and how this contract would effect the
departments involved. Ms. Hayes stated that she would take the cost estimate and the
Committee comments back to the Township meeting for additions discussion. Mr. Hyde
thanked Mr. Wells for being pro-active on this issue and felt the committee would be
open to further discussions.
