City of West Allis Meeting Minutes Commission on Aging Monday, May 21, 2018 3:45 PM Senior Center 7001 W. National Ave. REGULAR MEETING A. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by: Ms. Patricia Wikenhauser at 3:45 p.m. B. ROLL CALL Present 9- Ms. Jessica Lisinski, Mr. David Rymaszewski, Mr. David Rymaszewski, Ms. Judith Schmidt, Ms. Deborah Tiegs, Ms. Linda Timm, Ms. Patricia Wikenhauser, Ms. Patricia Wikenhauser, and Mr. John Zentgraf Excused 4- Ms. Tammy Herro, Ms. Tammy Herro, Ms. Margee Maydak, and Ms. Margee Maydak Others Present: Denise Koenig, Jane Kolinski, Sally Nusslock C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes were reviewed by the commission. A motion was made by Linda Timm and seconded by Deborah Tiegs to approve the April 23, 2018 minutes. The motion passed without objection. MATTERS FOR DISCUSSION/ACTION 2. 18-00270 Correspondence and/or Communication · Wisconsin Dental Association - Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic Flyer · West Allis Memorial Day Parade Flyer · Healthy Aging Summit Workshop Informational Flyer This matter was Discussed 3. 18-00271 Update on Senior Center Policies and Procedures No Report. This matter was placed on file. 4. 18-00279 Report on Community Projects a) Stockbox Program Update. Jane Kolinski reported that 108 boxes distributed this month. Distribution was held at the Police Department Substation and Pick and Save parking lot across the street due to the City of West Allis Page 1 Printed on 11/1/2021 Commission on Aging Meeting Minutes May 21, 2018 construction and parking shortage. b) Interfaith West Central Resource Center. Denise Koenig reported that Interfaith is currently seeking volunteer drivers. Interfaith’s Volunteer Picnic is scheduled for June 14, 2018. This matter was Discussed 5. 18-00223 Update on Senior Seminar Denise Koenig reported that the Senior Seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21, 2018. She further stated that the guest speaker, Adele Lund from the Laureate Group, is confirmed. Her presentation will be on “Downsizing In Anticipation of Moving, Some Tips to Get Started”. Denise stated that she is looking for a guest speaker for the second half of the seminar. She presented information on Alan Wolkenstein who is behavioral science educator. His seminar focuses on the many emotions that can cause roadblocks and family discord when dealing with moving from one’s long-time home. The Commission requested Denise check on his availability for the event. This matter was Discussed 6. 18-00272 Discussion of Construction Projects Denise Koenig reported that National Avenue in front of the Senior Center is currently under construction. It is unknown how long the project will take. Due to the road closure, the Senior Center is experiencing a parking shortage. This matter was Discussed 7. 18-00273 Discussion of Senior Center Parking Lot Security · Parking Lot - Denise Koenig reported that she is in contact with the city’s I.T. Department regarding the cost of installing additional parking lot cameras, installation, etc. Cost figures will be presented at the next meeting. This matter was Discussed 8. 18-00274 Discussion of Senior Center Main Hall Blinds Denise Koenig notified the Commission that the blinds are showing deterioration. In the future they will need to be replaced. When the time comes for replacement, the Commission will be asked for funding. This matter was Discussed 9. 18-00275 Discussion of Outdoor TV Antenna · Denise Koenig reported that the cost of cable television and the boxes have been constantly increasing. She is researching the use of an outdoor antenna to pick up over the air channels. The city’s electrical division maybe able to run the wire and install the antennas. The lobby television will continue to have cable television. This matter was Discussed 10. 18-00276 Staff Report City of West Allis Page 2 Printed on 11/1/2021 Commission on Aging Meeting Minutes May 21, 2018 · Denise Koenig reported on upcoming events and distributed the Senior Center’s Schedule of Events. o Emergency Exit Door Alarms were installed. o Eat Better Move More 2 - Class series finished o Walk With Ease - Class series finished o West Allis Ala Carte - Sunday, June 3 , 2018 o AARP Safe Driver Program - Tuesday, June 5, 2018 o Annual Fire and Tornado drills were conducted. This matter was Discussed 11. 18-00277 Senior Center Trust Fund Report (quarterly) o 1st quarter January-March - report presented at April meeting o 2nd quarter April- June - report presented at August meeting o 3rd quarter July-September - report presented at October meeting o 4th quarter October- December - report presented at January meeting This matter was Discussed E. ADJOURNMENT Next meeting scheduled for Monday, June 25, 2018. A motion was made by Dave Rymaszewski and seconded by John Zentgraf to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed without objection and adjourned at 4:45 p.m. All meetings of the {bdName} are public meetings.
