CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Wikenhauser at 3:45 p.m. B. ROLL CALL Present 6- Ms. Margee Maydak, Mr. David Rymaszewski, Ms. Deborah Tiegs, Ms. Patricia Wikenhauser, Mr. John Zentgraf, and Ms. Heather Uzowulu Excused 2- Ms. Linda Timm, and Ms. Diane Langford Others present: Heather Uzowulo, Denise Koenig, Sharon Roy C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. 21-0119 Minutes (draft) of meeting of February 22, 2021 Attachments: Commission on Aging Minutes 2-22-2021 A motion was made by Commissioner Rymaszyski seconded by Commissioner Maydak to approve the minutes of the meeting of February 22, 2021 D. MATTERS FOR DISCUSSION/ACTION 2. 21-0120 Correspondence and/or Communication: Milwaukee County is expanding the targeted ZIP code program for COVID-19 vaccines. Milwaukee County Department on Aging was reorganized with a new name Milwaukee County DHHS Division on Aging. Koenig highlighted some of the Advisory Council minutes: virtual outreach, advocacy training, Stepping on Program Training, and wellness calls. A survey went out for Milwaukee County’s Community Assessment. Beulah Brinton and Oasis, both City of Milwaukee senior centers are open on a limited basis; by appointment only. Brookfield Senior Center is open by appointment only, card playing, exercise, etc. 3. 21-0121 Discuss donations to West Allis Community Outreach: i.e. sandwiches A motion was made by Commissioner Wikenhauser and seconded by Commissioner Tiegs to offer to help with the West Allis Community Outreach food distribution (soup/sandwich) at Apostle Presbyterian Church. 4. 21-0122 Senior Center Opening: Per Health Commissioner continuing being “Cautiously Optimistic”; per media 60% to 70% of seniors in Wisconsin have received a COVID vaccination. Per CVMIC, COVID vaccine cards cannot be required at this time. City of West Allis Page 1 Printed on 11/1/2021 Commission on Aging Meeting Minutes March 22, 2021 5. 21-0123 Discussion of Strategic Planning for West Allis Senior Center: Small group of Commissioners met to discuss Municipal Code 2.455 concerning the Commission on Aging. Changes to the Code were brought up in 2016 and the Commissioners would like to move forward with this process. 6. 21-0124 Report on Community Projects: Stockbox Program Update - 259 boxes distributed, extra food included 2-ham steaks, case of canned peaches, 2 gallons of milk, case of orange juice, 2 blocks of Munster cheese, cereal, dried peas. One of the Senior Center’s volunteers said a Hunger Task Force representative told her he can’t wait to hold the Stockbox distributions back at the Senior Center. Eras Senior Network - 24,000 friendly phone calls for both Milwaukee and Waukesha County and 20,000 one way rides. Volunteers are coming back; they’re not taking seniors shopping, but rather shopping on their behalf. Heather’s report next month will have specific statistics relating to West Allis and West Milwaukee elders. September 30th is the annual fund raiser for Eras Senior Network, not sure yet if it will be in person or virtual. 7. 21-0125 Staff Report: Dining continues, working on Standard Operating Procedures; Library is offering a virtual program on How to Declutter on April 13, 2021. E. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m. with the next scheduled meeting to be held on April 26, 2021.
