ROLL CALL Present 10 - Barczak, Czaplewski, Kopplin, Lajsic, Narlock, Reinke, Sengstock, Trudell, Vitale, and Weigel C. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ald. Weigel. D. PUBLIC HEARINGS 1. 2003-0042 Special Use application submitted by SIDCOR on behalf of Southtown Tire and Auto to relocate the existing repair facility on site and construct a new auto repair facility at 2900 Block of S. 108 St. (Southtown Plaza Shopping Center). Explanation of the proposed Special Use by John Stibal, Director of Development. Appearances: None. E. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION Christine Kohal, 3160 S. 63 St., leader of the Marketing and Communication Committee for a new Catholic School opening in the fall of 2004 serving the communities of West Allis and West Milwaukee, and Dave Scrobel, business manager of St. Aloysius Parish at S. 93 St. and W. Greenfield Ave., discussed the state of Catholic education for 2004 as it effects West Allis resulting from the Archbishop's mandate. The eight (8) parishes will support one (1) unified Catholic school with two (2) campuses offering K-4 through 8 education opportunities. Ms. Kohal stated that the transition regarding the change of parochial schools will be difficult, and they will be working with the various city departments in order to follow the proper codes. Robert Braun, 2160 S. 86 St., of the Christian Civil Liberties Union, thanked the Council and Mayor for not allowing the x-rated portion in the Family Video Store at S. 76 St. and W. National Ave. He commented on the Booked Solid Store at 7035 W. Greenfield Ave. Colin Hudson, 6962 N. Raintree Dr., read a letter from an individual at the Dodge Correctional Institute. Renee Vertin, 257 Lincoln Drive N, West Bend, expressed her feelings about the exposure of City of West Allis Page 1 Printed on 12/21/2018 Common Council Meeting Minutes January 20, 2004 pornography on children. Michael Murphy, 349 Joris Ave., Waukesha, requested that the same standards be applied to the Booked Solid Store that were applied to the Family Video Store. Daniele Haber, owner of Booked Solid at 7035 W. Greenfield Ave., stated that she is a member of the Business Improvement District, and has been at her store since 1991. She indicated that she has never had a problem regarding censorship. She stated that corruption does not happen because of magazines. Ms. Haber said that she is a good community member. Jim Mejchar, President, West Allis Chamber of Commerce, 7149 W. Greenfield Ave., announced that Community Night is scheduled at the Bradley Center for February 13th. Tickets are available at the Chamber of Commerce and City Hall. The proceeds go to the Education Foundation. Mr. Mejchar also commented on his own positive experiences with Booked Solid. Brian Preiss, Executive Director, Downtown Business Improvement District, 7231 W. Greenfield Ave., commented on the newspaper article regarding the Business Improvement District in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He also stated that Daniele Haber of Booked Solid is positive and has a wealth of knowledge, and he has not received complaints regarding her business. Joel Paplham, 1215 S. 76 St., commented on the lighting of the flag in the Courtyard at City Hall, and flag etiquette. He mentioned the importance of the POW/MIA flag, and requested recognition of it. F. ANNOUNCEMENT OF RECESS MEETINGS OF STANDING COMMITTEES Mayor Bell announced that the following Committees would meet during recess: Administration & Finance, Public Works, Safety & Development, License & Health, and Advisory. G. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS Agenda Approval that the agenda with Supplemental Agenda item no. 18a, item no. 17 withdrawn, item nos. 42 and 43 referral changes from License & Health to Administration & Finance and item no. 26 should be a joint referral to include Administration & Finance be accepted A motion was made by Ald. Sengstock, seconded by Ald. O-2004-0005 An Ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 6634 Establishing the Salary Ranges of Certain Employees in the Executive Service, the Managerial Service, the Deputy Service, and the Confidential, Professional, and Supervisory Service of the City of West Allis for the Years 2002-2005 (Police Lieutenants). Approval of Minutes to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of January 6, 2004 A motion was made by Ald. Sengstock, seconded by Ald.
