CITIZEN PARTICIPATION Richard Polivka, 807 S. 90 St., expressed his approval for R-2014-0197, developing a strategic plan for the City of West Allis. Brianna Olson, 2210 S. 75 St., commented on the length of time she has been raising awareness of the negative effects Pawn America has had on the neighborhood, misconceptions of the city, police, and neighbors regarding the activities. She suggested that there be an undercover officer to witness and investigate what the neighbors are seeing and recording. She spoke about her concerns of the future of the neighborhood and the city if Pawn America is allowed to continue operating as they are. Sherry Lenski, 2233 S. 76 St., spoke about incidents she has witnessed around Pawn America, contact she has had with the guard at Pawn America and a proposition made to her. She stated she feels the store is too big for the neighborhood. Jaclyn Kirch, 2316 S. 76 St., spoke about negative effects and the type of clientele Pawn America draws into the area. She commented that residents in other communities were allowed the opportunity to speak about Pawn America opening in their neighborhoods, whereas West Allis citizens were not allowed that opportunity. F. ANNOUNCEMENT OF RECESS MEETINGS OF STANDING COMMITTEES Mayor Devine announced that the following Committees would meet during recess: Administration & Finance, Public Works, Safety & Development, License & Health, and Advisory. MAYOR'S REPORT Mayor Devine reminded everyone that school is back in session, to pay extra attention while driving especially in school zones and to look out for children. He thanked the work force that did not get the three day holiday weekend, those in protective services, public service and all labor workers. Mayor Devine invited everyone to meet at City Hall Wednesday evenings every two weeks for about an hour to participate in a city clean up. The program was brought forth by 9 year old Morgan Zak wanting to do more for the City after she started a recycling program at Jefferson Elementary. The next " Zak Attack " will be Wednesday, September 3. Mayor Devine commented that the Community Garden at Rainbow Park had its grand opening with forty (40) plots already rented and two (2) of them by a shelter serving veterans. H. ALDERPERSON'S REPORT Ald. Weigel thanked the Community Development Authority on behalf of the West Allis Hale and Central Booster Clubs for allowing them to park cars during State Fair on the site of the new hotel. He commented that this would be the last year they would be able to use that location and that they raised $70,000 for West Allis Hale and Central High School's Booster Clubs. He thanked everyone for their help and Gerry Matter for the portable lighting system. Ald. Probst addressed the unfair characterization of residents near Pawn America who are trying to protect their neighborhood. She said they should be commended for the efforts they have put forth to take back their neighborhood. She stated she would follow their lead that has been established. There are two (2) videos showing side deals, trespassers, loitering and parking lot issues. She said there are many citizens and public employees that could testify on activity they have witnessed. Ald. Probst announced she helped out at the crosswalk of 74th St. and Becher St., Jefferson Elementary School, and asked everyone to get a feel for driving the 15 mph school zone speed limit. She stated that many cars were traveling too fast for a school zone. Ald. May wanted to commend La Follette Park on a summer of wonderful events. Last Wednesday was the last movie night and this Saturday there will be a band and pig roast. A correction was made to the agenda with item no. 47 as a joint referral for Administration & Finance and Safety & Development Committees. I.
