CITIZEN PARTICIPATION Effie Truchon, 1018 S. 91 St., spoke on the benefits and positive impact Community Gardens offer and benefits it provides. Ms. Truchon spoke in support of the development of the McCarty Park Community Garden. Mary Koller, 11952 W. Ohio Ave., commented on the success of the first Community Garden at Rainbow Park and the County plans for creating more Community Gardens, and that West Allis is requesting additional Community Gardens. Ms. Koller spoke on the waiting list of people wanting to have space in the Community Garden. Natalie Bergstrom, 7730 W. Honey Creek, supports the McCarty Park Community Garden and looks forward to renting a garden plot. Ryan Schone, University of Wisconsin Extension Milwaukee County, stated the UW Extension is in support of the McCarty Park Community Garden, and that they helped create the Rainbow Park Community Garden. Mr. Schone commented on a program called SEED (Sowing Empowering and Eliminating Food Deserts), helping to reduce food insecurities across Milwaukee County. Richard Drew, 71 St., asked about having concrete aprons put around fire hydrants for the ease of snow removal and to keep the grass from getting torn up. Mike Witte, 1451 S. 86 St., thanked the Council for allowing Boy Scout Troop #16 the opportunity to observe the Council meeting. Mr. Witte spoke on behalf of the West Allis Little League to thank the City for the redevelopment of Reservoir Park and the little league fields. ANNOUNCEMENT OF RECESS MEETINGS OF STANDING COMMITTEES Mayor Devine announced that the following Committees would meet during recess: Administration & Finance, Public Works, Safety & Development, License & Health, and Advisory. G. MAYOR'S REPORT Mayor Devine reminded everyone of the annual Spring Citywide Clean Up; congratulated the West Allis Fire Department on the success of the Fight for Air Climb and for reclaiming the title. Mayor Devine announced that the West Allis/West Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce held their annual Award Ceremony and congratulated the following: Young Professional of the Year - Dana Derrick, of Derrick Family Chiropractic, Business of the Year - West Allis Cheese and Sausage Shoppe, and Lifetime Achievement Award - Ted Majdecki, Majdecki Sentry/Piggly Wiggly, for his years of donations, support and contributions to the Commuinity. H. ALDERPERSON'S REPORT Ald. Weigel reached out to neighbors along the railroad tracks regarding the trains being allowed to blow their whistles while a faulty crossing on S. 68th St. was under repair. Ald. Weigel said that the work was completed and the Railroad Company is informing train engineers to no longer blow their whistles. Ald. Reinke announced that the Christmas Parade Planning Commitee has a fundraiser involving bowling & dinner. Ald. Reinke asked to be called or emailed at RosieReinke@yahoo.com for signing up. Ald. Haass reminded everyone to vote and to bring a photo ID to the polls. Ald. May announced that the following events were held: Rainbow Gardens Neighborhood Association, second annual Easter Egg Hunt, Rosehill Neighborhood Association, 2nd annual Chili Cook Off, Friends of LaFollette Park, pancake breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt. Ald. May gave commendations to Dick Ziolecki, who hosted a Haywagon Food Drive, in which Harley Davidson has nominated Mr. Ziolecki for the Jefferson Award National Level at Washington DC.
