A. Call to Order
Ms. Suelzer called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
B. Roll Call
Present: Jamie Arneson, Barbara Hart, Adam Hengel, Darren Rausch, Elizabeth
Suelzer, and Alderperson Turner
Excused: Jody Rymaszewski, and Michelle Wadewitz
Staff present: Michael Koszalka, Library Director, and Lisa VandenBoom, Library

C. Approval of Minutes

Ms. Hart moved to approve the March 22, 2023 Library Board minutes as written.
Second by Alderperson Turner. Motion approved.

3. Posting-Free Literature Racks Policy

This policy will be ready for board review at the May Library Board meeting.

4. MCFLS Update
MCFLS will be starting work on a strategic plan soon.
A new online catalog vendor, Aspen, was selected. CountyCat, the online library
catalog, will be changed to the new platform in 2024.
5. Request by Banned Patron for Reinstatement of Library Privileges

The patron who requested reinstatement did not appear at the meeting, so the
board did not take action on this item.
6. West Allis A La Carte
Ms. Suelzer will coordinate Library Board volunteers to staff the Library's table at
West Allis A La Carte on Sunday, June 4th.
7. Trustee Essentials-Chapter 21- The Library Board and Accessible

I. Library Director's Report
-Mayor Devine surprised Library staff with bagels and a proclamation for National
Library Week.
-The Library has received another donation totaling $300,000 from the estate of
Marion Jane Ellert. A previous bequest of $500,000 was received from the estate
earlier in the year.
-Interviews continue for the Children's Services Supervisor position.
-Library staff will be attending various outreach events in the summer. These
include the New to Me event at Liberty Heights park, McCarty Park beer garden,
West Allis Farmer's Market, National Night Out, and Bikes on the Block.
-Community member Bill Radonski has offered to lead a donation campaign to
fund an outdoor programming space at the Library.
-A West Allis Community Read will take place in the fall. The book chosen is
"The Final Revival of Opal and Nev" by Dawnie Walton. Events are being
planned.
-The Friends of the West Allis Public Library will have their general meeting on
Saturday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m.
J. Adjournment
There being no further business, Ms. Hart moved to adjourn. Second by
Alderperson Turner. Motion approved. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
