City of West Allis Meeting Minutes Public Works Committee Alderperson Gary T. Barczak, Chair Alderperson Vincent Vitale, Vice-Chair Alderpersons: Thomas G. Lajsic, Cathleen M. Probst, Rosalie L. Reinke Tuesday, October 3, 2017 8:25 PM City Hall Room 118 (Mayor's conference room) SPECIAL RECESS MEETING A. CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Barczak called the meeting to order. B. ROLL CALL Present 4- Ald. Barczak, Ald. Vitale, Ald. Probst, and Ald. Reinke Excused 1- Ald. Lajsic C. DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. 2017-0646 Discussion regarding Advanced Disposal Contract. The Director of Public Works /City Engineer presented the proposal from the City’s current garbage contractor to the Board members. The main issues were the needed maintenance work that Advanced would perform at the transfer station, along with the yearly tonnage fees and ten year extension period. The Board agreed with the direction the Director of Public Works/City Engineer was taking and directed that continued negotiations be held with Advanced Disposal with the goal of extending the contract. This matter was Discussed. 2. 2017-0647 Discussion regarding an update of the recycling program. The Board was pleasantly surprised with the increase in recycling tonnage so far. The City has seen a 45% increase in tonnage, which has saved about $17,100 in landfill fees. The August rebate was almost $9,000 to the City from John’s Disposal. The Board agreed that the start-up of the new program has been successful. This matter was Discussed. 3. 2017-0648 Discussion regarding Communications from City Administrator requesting approval to fill the vacant positions of Equipment Mechanic and Fleet Maintenance Technician in the Fleet Services Division. D. ADJOURNMENT All meetings of the Public Works Committee are public meetings.
