City of West Point Regular Council Meeting Minutes Monday, October 9, 2023 @ 5:30 West Point Council Chambers The regular meeting of the Mayor and Council was held in the Council Chambers on October 9, 2023, at 5:30 P.M. with Mayor Steven M. Tramell presiding. Members Present: Members Absent: Mayor Pro-Tempore Gerald W. Ledbetter Councilmember Joseph R. Downs III Councilmember Joel B. Finlay Councilmember Gloria R. Marshall Councilmember Sandra Thornton Councilmember Deedee Williams Mayor Steve Tramell thanked everyone for coming and stated the Mayor and Council are wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Mayor Steve Tramell called Mayor Pro-Tempore Gerald W. Ledbetter to give the opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Tramell. Mayor Tramell called the meeting of the Council to order. MINUTES Mayor Tramell asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the September 11, 2023, Regular Business Meeting. Councilmember Joseph R. Downs III made said motion, seconded by Councilmember Gerald W. Ledbetter; passed unanimously. FINANCIAL REPORT Mayor Tramell stated the financial report for approval is in the Council packet. Mayor Tramell asked for a motion to approve the September Financial report. Councilmember Sandra Thornton made said motion, seconded by Councilmember Gloria R. Marshall; passed unanimously. AGENDA Mayor Tramell reviewed the agenda and asked for a motion to approve the agenda. Councilmember Gerald W. Ledbetter made said motion, seconded by Councilmember Joel B. Finlay; passed unanimously. Page 2 of 2 Historic Preservation Commission Appointment Mayor Tramell asked for a motion to re-appoint Debra Robertson for a three-year term on the Historic Preservation Commission. Councilmember Gerald W. Ledbetter made said motion, seconded by Councilmember Joel B. Finlay; passed unanimously. OTHER Councilmember Deedee Williams stated there will be a meet and greet for the candidates on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 6-7 at SIP Café. Council member Sandra stated October 22, 2023, Team Whip will have their annual march and events supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Week. Councilmember Joseph R. Downs III stated there is a new strain of COVID. He recommended that everybody get the new COVID vaccination especially people over the age of 65. Meeting Schedule: Work Session Tuesday, October 31, 2023 Business Meeting Monday, November 13, 2023 ADJOURN Mayor Tramell asked for a motion to adjourn. Councilmember Gloria R. Marshall made said motion and seconded by Councilmember Joseph R. Downs III; passed unanimously.
