Westminster Tree Commission MINUTES OF MEETING Wednesday, July 8, 2015 56 West Main Street, 4:30 PM 1. Attendance: Chairman, Steve Allgeier, Cindy May, Eric Schlitzer, Marge Wolf, Samantha Parthree, Andrew Gray, Jeb Shingler, and Dr. Mona Becker 2. Approval of Minutes a. A quorum was not present at the June meeting so no action was taken. 3. Old Business a. Heritage Tree Trail Update – Ms. Wolf brought up discussion on the second part of the Heritage Tree Trail. The commission discussed what trees should be labeled, taking into consideration their distance from the trail. Mr. Shingler showed the commission his design for the tree trail placard. There will be a QR code linking to the city website, showing a map of the trail. The commission will email Mr. Shingler about what they would like to see on the placard. Mr. Shingler will email the commission design changes for review. b. Update on Tree Workshop – Ms. May mentioned that all speakers for the forestry workshop have been lined up. Ms. Parthree stated that 11 attendees already registered. Mr. Gray signed the “Educational Services Agreement Facilities Use” form. Dr. Becker reviewed the workshop agenda, and will see if some McDaniel College Students would be interested in attending. Ms. Parthree will check with Mark Mellendick (Public Works) about the availability of the BGE trailer. 4. New Business a. Discussion of student volunteer and training activities at McDaniel College- Introduction of Dr. Mona Becker- Mr. Allgeier discussed the “Tree Tenders”, and how the program encourages citizen involvement in tree maintenance. This program will teach citizen volunteers about proper tree care. Mr. Allgeier will send information about the tree advocate volunteer program to the commission. Dr. Becker mentioned getting students involved from the McDaniel College Environmental Science Program. b. Introduction of Andrew Gray, community planner. Mr. Gray was introduced by Ms. Wolf. Mr. Gray told the commission about his background, and that it will be a pleasure working with the commission. 5. Adjournment a. The meeting was adjourned on motion by Ms. May and seconded by Mr. Allgeier.
