Westminster Tree Commission MINUTES OF MEETING Wednesday, September 09, 2015 56 West Main Street, 4:30 PM 1. Attendance Commissioners - Chair Steve Allgeier, Commissioners Cindy May, Howard Wilt and Richard Wilbur Staff - Marge Wolf, Eric Schlitzer, Samantha Parthree, Bill Mackey and Andrew Gray Attendees - Jessica Fitzgerald, Chris Baton, Gainor Davis and Larry Jackson 2. Approval of Minutes a. The Commission approved the minutes of the August 12, 2015, meeting on a motion by Chair Allgeier, seconded by Commissioner Wilt. 3. Old Business a. Heritage Tree Trail Update – Ms. Fitzgerald will forward, by email, the information necessary to Mr. Gray. b. Update on Tree Workshop – Ms. Fitzgerald stated all speakers were confirmed. Ms. Parthree informed the Commission the City will have a new Facebook page available to highlight projects for Tree Commission. Ms. Parthree mentioned 73 people have registered. None are students. c. Volunteer Street Pruning Program – The Commission discussed the topic of pruning street trees. No action on pruning was recommended. d. Green Ash Trees in Westminster – Mr. Gray informed the Commission that the State Forester would be able to map Ash Trees at City Hall, along Main Street, and in one or two of the City-owned parks. 4. New Business a. Carroll County Historical Society Sidewalk – Dr. Davis explained to the Commission the problems that the sidewalks pose at the Historical Society. She also showed historical photos of the facility, which included the 80-year-old subject trees. Mr. Jackson told the Commission that Mr. Batton started to look at concepts of how to deal with the tree roots and the limitations the roots place on complying with ADA regulations. 1 of 2  The plan would be to replace two of the four street trees in March 2016 with trees listed in the City’s Charter and Code. The Commission discussed voting on this issue at the next monthly meeting. b. Wakefield Valley Tree Inventory – Chair Allgeier told the Commission there are a few trees worth saving, explaining an inventory is not needed at this time. Ms. Wolf informed the Commission that if there were trees to be saved, the Commission would need to identify them and inform the City. 5. Commissioner Reports a. None 6. Staff Reports a. None 7.
