CITY OF WESTMINSTER TREE COMMISSION MEETING SUMMARY Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 4:30 PM Conference Room, Second Floor, 56 West Main Street 1. Call to Order Commissioners - Chair Steve Allgeier, Vice-Chair Cindy May, and Commissioner Tim Bangerd, were present. Staff - Andrew Gray and Eric Schlitzer were present. Visitors - Jessica Fitzgerald was present. 2. Approval of Minutes Chair Allgeier made a motion to approve the November 8, 2017 meeting summary. Vice-Chair May seconded. The motion passed. 3. Old Business a. Comprehensive City Tree Plan -Mr. Gray briefed the Commission about updates that were made over the past month. He reviewed ideas such as adding maps that identify where possible tree planting sites at each municipal park are located. Mr. Gray also presented a list of trees that should not be planted as Street Trees. The Commission decided the list should be included in the plan. The Chair mentioned McDaniel College is interested in having student intern volunteers help inventory the trees in Westminster and how this inventory will help provide more information for the plan. 4. New Business b. Arbor Day Celebration 2018 - Mr. Gray reviewed the Staff Report dated December 8, 2017, which included recommendations on possible locations for the Arbor Day Celebration. The Commission decided to focus on contacting William Winchester, Cranberry, and Westminster Elementary Schools. 5. Commissioner Report None 6. Staff Reports 1. Mr. Gray mentioned the City has applied for grant funding to treat Ash Trees in the City. Grant funding is provided through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources - Forest Service. 7.
