WESTWOOD FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING MEETING DATE: Tuesday, June 28, 2016 CALLED TO ORDER: at 7:33 p.m. by Dennis Farrell. PRESENT: Martha Urbiel (MU), Dennis Farrell (DF), Barbara Stewart (BJS), Noeline Grefrath (NG), Mike Violano (MV), Bev Karch (BK), and Beth Dell (BD). SUNSHINE LAW: Read by DF. PUBLIC FORUM: No members of the public were present. MINUTES: A motion to accept the minutes of the May 24, 2016 meeting was made by BK; seconded by BJS. The motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT: The treasurer's report was presented by NG. Total checking and cash management funds are $184,791.69. A motion to accept the treasurer's report was made by MV and seconded by BJS. The motion carried. The current bills list (5523-5540) was read. A motion to accept the bills list was made by BK and seconded by MV. The motion carried. COMMITTEE REPORTS: None. CORRESPONDENCE: None. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: MU reported that the entire library collection has been reviewed and young adult and a few other categories have been relocated on the shelves. The summer reading program kick off on June 24 went very well for both K-5th grade registrations and for teens. This year’s One Book Westwood campaign has been covered in the local newspapers. Author Susan Beth Pfeffer will come to the Library on September 15th to lead the discussion of Life as We Knew It. Envisionware program for computer use has resulted in higher library card registrations. MU complemented the Young Friends of the Library for their volunteer work on a variety of programs. Ticket sales for the 8th Annual taste of Westwood are underway. Hackensack Pascack Valley Hospital has already signed up as a sponsor. Westwood Library Board Minutes June 28, 2016 Page 1 PRESIDENT'S REPORT: None. OLD BUSINESS: Plans for renovation of the area behind the circulation desk are proceeding. Funding for the project is being provided by the Friends. NEW BUSINESS: MU noted the acquisition of Pascack Community Bank has been completed and it now does business as Lakeland Bank. A trustee program entitled “Re-envisioning the Future Public Libraries” will take place on Saturday September 10th in East Windsor, NJ from 9am to 4pm. One trustee can attend for free. BUDGET DISCUSSION: MU reported the Library over budgeted health care costs for this year. Costs are actually $1,000 less than last year. MV suggested that the budget committee start planning next year’s budget earlier if the town council is moving up the schedule for budget discussion and decision making.
