BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: Monday, May 22, 2023
CALLED TO ORDER: at 7:01 p.m. by Dennis Farrell.
PRESENT: Martha Urbiel (MU), Dennis Farrell (DF), Noeline Grefrath (NG), Suzanne Gorham
(SG), Bev Karch (BK), Mike Violano (MV), Linda Phayre (LP), Frank Zimmerman (FZ),
Nickeisha Williams (NW), Claudia Gonzales-Doell (CGD), and Chris Montana (CM).
SUNSHINE LAW: Read by DF.
PUBLIC FORUM: No members of the public were present.
MINUTES: LP will correct the spelling of Dennis Farrell’s name. BK made a motion to accept
the minutes of the April 24 meeting with the correction; FZ seconded; CGD abstained. The
motion carried.
TREASURER'S REPORT: CGD presented the treasurer's report and cash management fund.
The total of the checking account, cash management fund, and capital account is $222,409.43. A
motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by BK; seconded by SG. The motion carried.
The current bills list (7315-7330) was reviewed. BK questioned the printer fee. MU clarified that
the charge is for two lease payments. A motion to accept the bills list was made by NG; seconded
by MV. The motion carried.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: Strategic Plan Committee. MV shared that the committee is
working on new objectives and working to condense the plan. The committee intends to
interview members of the community for feedback about the Library and suggestions for
improvement. The plan will be ready for the Board to review in the fall.
BOARD MEMBERS TRAINING REPORT: MU added agenda item to allow Board members
the opportunity to turnkey information from recent training sessions, when applicable.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT: MU shared that the WiFi is scheduled to be transferred to the
BCCLS WiFi system this week.
Several children’s programs ran, as well as some young adult and adult programs. Monthly
passive programs continue to run in order to increase engagement with patrons while in the
Library.

The final meeting of the Junior Library Council was attended by 15 attendees. They finalized
their tasks and received their certificates.
The ESL held classes and a Tutor Training Workshop. The program’s annual dinner will be held
on June 14 at the Westwood Community Center.
The Friends held a book sale. The Garden Club held a plant sale. The Garden Club has been
maintaining the gardens very well. The Library is partnering with Celebrate Westwood on their
community yarn art project.
BOROUGH LIAISON REPORT: CM shared that he will approve the requisition as soon as it
is available in order for the quarterly payments to be made on a timely basis to the Library. MV
questioned the timeline of the payments that the Borough makes to the Library. CM will find out
if the timeline is able to be moved up.
OLD BUSINESS: MU approved the final budget and distributed it to the Board.
NEW BUSINESS: MU shared that the Summer Reading program kicks off in June. Artwork by
WWRSD students will be displayed in the Library.
MEETING ADJOURNED: NG made a motion to adjourn; FZ seconded. The motion carried.
