MINUTES OF CITY OF WHARTON HOUSING COMMITTEE MEETING 120 EAST CANEY STREET WHARTON, TEXAS 77488 Monday, October 26, 2020— 6: 15 p. m. City Manager Andres Garza, Jr. declared a meeting of the City Council Housing Committee duly open for the transaction of business at 6: 20 p. m. Committee Members present were: Councilmember Terry Freese, Councilmember Clifford Jackson and Councilmember Russell Machann. Committee Member absent was: None. City Council Member present was: Mayor Tim Barker. Staff members present were: City Manager Andres Garza, Jr., Finance Director Joan Andel, Assistant to the City Manager Brandi Jimenez and Community Development Director Gwyneth Teves. Staff member absent was: None. Visitors: None. Next item was Public Comments. There were no public comments. The first item on the agenda was to review and consider the reading of the minutes from the meeting held January 21, 2020. Councilmember Russell Machann made a motion to approve the minutes as presented. Councilmember Terry Freese seconded the motion. All voted in favor. The second item on the agenda was to review and consider Request from the Wharton County Recovery Team. Community Development Director Gwyn Teves stated to the Committee that she had received a request from the Wharton County Recovery Team requesting to amend the request for a variance for the one- acre lot on Mattie Street. She stated that the City of Wharton had deeded this property to the Wharton County Recovery Team. She stated that the Wharton County Recovery Team was requesting that this property be replated. She stated that the quarter acre closest to the street would be used to build a single- family home and the remaining would be utilized as storage for RV' s and the Wharton County Recovery Team' s Satellite Office. She stated that currently the RV' s were stored at the former Franklin Furniture Warehouse. She stated that the Wharton County Recovery Team' s lease would expire on December 31, 2020. After some discussion, Councilmember Clifford Jackson made a motion to recommend to the City Council to decline the request from the Wharton County Recovery Team to amend the request for the variance on Mattie Street and to recommend that the City offer the City owned property on Halford Road be used for the storage of the RV' s only pending the execution of a lease. Councilmember Terry Freese seconded the motion. All voted in favor. The third item on the agenda was adjournment. There being no further business to discuss, Councilmember Russell Machann moved to adjourn the meeting. Councilmember Clifford Jackson seconded the motion. All voted in favor.
