WHITEFISH ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE MINUTES November 3, 2020 The meeting was called to order by Kathy Skemp at 8:15AM PRESENT: Stacy Caldwell, Shane Jacobs, Diane Kane, Leslie Lowe, Paul McElroy, Tracy Rossi, Kathy Skemp ABSENT: STAFF: Wendy Compton-Ring PUBLIC COMMENT: none MINUTES: The minutes from October 6, 2020 were unanimously approved. OLD BUSINESS none NEW BUSINESS Repaint, 505 & 509 E 6th Street, Monte Gilman (ARC 20-28) The applicant described the project, its location and proposed colors. Gray for the body, Black trim and maintaining the tan/wood colors for the windows, doors and front entryway. They plan on doing this work in the Spring. There was Committee discussion about the colors and their location. Diane – no problem with the request, can visualize it Paul – looks better Motion: Leslie – move to approve as submitted and return if there are any changes Diane – 2nd Discussion: none Vote: motion passes unanimously Façade Change, 1000 Wisconsin Avenue, Solus Architects (ARC 20-29) The applicant described the project, its location and proposed materials. At this point the property owner does not have a tenant. They will do the exterior for sure and the interior once a tenant has signed a lease. 1 Committee members asked about the materials – the siding, the windows, the material holding up the proposed front awnings. There was concern the exterior material choice was not hardy enough for a commercial building. Paul – colors are fine, the material selection are not the best for commercial bldgs. Shane – the façade improvements are a huge improvement and much needed; the colors are too similar – white & light gray; maybe a darker gray; wonders if the tan is a good 3rd color choice with white and gray; the building could use some relief; could be accomplished with the materials, extending the awning further out; plan for exhaust screening on the roof if it becomes a restaurant – will be very visible Diane – could use landscaping next to the building Stacey – agrees with Shane, good upgrades; also had questions about the landscaping Leslie – agrees; would like to see upgraded landscaping Tracy – asked about the dumpster; they will build a cooler with an exterior door so the garbage does not smell and it's in an enclosed space Paul – recalled looking at this property and saw the building on this lot was required to obtain approval from The Quarry and that this was to match The Quarry too. Those buildings are wood not a Hardi siding. Applicant – wasn't certain about the materials and some other review process, will need to check on that; if they end up doing a restaurant and need an exhaust system, he'll bring it back Tracy – read Exhibit C #3 when she was working on a contract with someone on this property last year; may have changes since then, but should be reviewed Paul – thinks the materials ought to complement The Quarry Motion: Leslie – move to table and directed the applicant to carefully review the Committee comments Tracy – 2nd Discussion: none Vote: motion passes unanimously OTHER ITEMS Stumptown Snowboard Addition, 128 Central Avenue, MT Creative, Pre-Ap Matt Lawrance described the proposed project, location and the plan. The Committee thanked Matt for doing a pre-ap and offered suggestions. Architectural Review Standards were approved on October 19th and had their 2nd reading last night and will go into effect in 30-days (12/3/20). The Hwy 93 S Corridor Plan may have some additional changes as they wrap up. We could put this plus the other two items the Council directed the group to look at on the work plan. Leslie – would also like to look at adding alternatives to lawn and deer fencing to this list Meeting adjourned at 9:34 AM 2
