WHITEFISH ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE MINUTES May 21, 2024 The meeting was called to order by Diane Kane, chair, at 8:16 AM PRESENT: Christine Bleyhl, Diane Kane, Leslie Lowe, Ryan Kiefer ABSENT: Grant Hughes, Paul McElroy, Tracy Rossi STAFF: Wendy Compton-Ring PUBLIC COMMENT: none MINUTES: The minutes from May 7, 2024 were unanimously approved. OLD BUSINESS 345 Spokane Avenue, amendments, nuWest Builders (ARC 22-29) Described the changes from the previous approvals. The applicant presented new elevations and new materials. The front of the building will be removed with this project. The building is being removed because it was in rough shape. Leslie – thinks it’s kind of fun, it’s not anything we’ve seen here; likes the materials Christine – sorry to see the more modern look of the previous design go away Ryan – don’t want religious tone, but still have a steeple and the gothic windows Wants to create something that is a nod to the past but is long lasting versus a design that will look dated in the future Ryan – why the gothic style-shaped windows wants to honor the church past without being a specific to a particular church Christine – real copper flashing and trim that will be permitted to patina yes Diane – the arch windows make sense when you see the interior Leslie – it is spectacular Christine – if hadn’t see the original version would like this one Ryan – trying to reconcile the previous version with this one; were this project to remain a remodel, the historic preservation of the structure and character of the building would be paramount. Now that the building is to be razed, to re-create the original building seems less important than replacing it with a quality and original building Reviewed the site plan and other changes from the version approved most recently Motion: Leslie – moved to approve as submitted with real copper that will patina over time Christine – 2nd 1 Discussion: Ryan – asked the group if they had any thoughts on the materials Christine – ok, there is enough differentiation with the material textures and colors All agreed. Vote: motion passes unanimously NEW BUSINESS none OTHER ITEMS Committee thanked Diane for her years of work and wished her well. A new person was appointed at Council meeting last night and will start in June Meeting adjourned at 8:45AM 2
