ROLL CALL - Present: Olm, Adamitus, Weigel, Schreiber (Virtual) - Absent: Richardson - Others Present: Ben Kloskey, Brad Marquardt, Gloria Buley (4:50pm) CONSENT AGENDA Items on the Consent Agenda will be approved together unless any committee member requests that an item be removed for individual consideration. 1.) Approval of Agenda Landmarks Committee Agenda December 13, 2023 Page 2 2.) Approval of the Minutes of October 5th, 2023 3.) Set date of next meeting: January 4th, 2024 - Motion to approve made by Schreiber, seconded by Weigel. - Unanimously approved via voice vote. HEARING OF CITIZEN COMMENTS No formal Committee action will be taken during this meeting although issues raised may become a part of a future agenda. Participants are allotted a three minute speaking period. Specific items listed on the agenda may not be discussed at this time; however, citizens are invited to speak to those specific issues at the time the Committee discusses that particular item. You may need to move your mouse to see these controls. On a traditional telephone, dial *6 to unmute your phone and dial *9 to raise your hand. OLD BUSINESS 1.) Water Tower Situation and Signage a. Adamitus reached out to Brad Marquardt, who said he will have the signage fixed in the future. 2.) Birge Fountain Fundraising a. Approval was received from Whitewater Community foundation for a conduit account to be made for Birge Fountain Fundraising. 3.) Territorial Oak a. Tree came down in late October. NEW BUSINESS 1.) Back Porch of Hamilton House a. Gloria Buley originally not present, showed up a little later on in the meeting at 4:50pm. b. After Gloria explained proposed changes, the committee was in support of her renovations. - Motion to approve made by Schreiber, seconded by Olm. - Unanimously approved via voice vote. 2.) Delta Zeta Sorority Shed a. Moved to next month. Landmarks Committee Agenda December 13, 2023 Page 3 3.) Thank You Note for City Efforts at the Effigy Mounds a. Adamitus said he was taking care of this letter. b. Weigel added that she hoped this was just the beginning of more work being done on the Mounds. - Motion to approve made by Olm, seconded by Weigel. - Unanimously approved via voice vote. 4.) Orientation for New Members a. Schreiber said he will reach out to City Clerk and that this should be focused on more when new members are actually added. CONSIDERATIONS / DISCUSSIONS / REPORTS 1.) Election of a Vice Chair - Weigel nominated by Olm, seconded by Schreiber. - No other nominations. - Unanimous approval via roll call. 2.) Effigy Mounds Update A. Dr. Rosebrough’s visit back in November was a success, and her presentations garnered big groups of listeners. B. Weigel informed the committee that a section of the mounds has been identified as a “historical garden bed” which if it is from the mound building time period, would add prestige to the site. C. Whitewater High School students will be coming to the mounds area to remove buckthorn in the near future. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS - Suggested future agenda items: New meeting day/time, Water Tower Situation, Birge Fountain Funds, Delta Zeta Sorority Shed, Birge Anniversary Party and Special Event Rules ADJOURNMENT - Motion to adjourn made by Schreiber, seconded by Weigel. - Unanimous approval via voice vote. - Adamitus adjourned the meeting at 6:53pm. A quorum of the Common Council may be present.
