Meeting of the BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY Thursday, June 6, 2019 Wildwood City Hall Community Room 16860 Main Street APPROVED Committee Members in Attendance: Marshal Dan McCune Council Member Dave Bertolino Board Member Denny Welker Captain James Mundel, St Louis County Police Board Member David Williams Absent: Deputy Chief John Bradley, Metro West Fire Protection District Also Present: Rick Brown, Director of Public Works / City Engineer Joe Vujnich, Director of Planning and Parks, and Co-City Administrator I. ROLL CALL A roll call was taken at 6:30 pm, with the above noted as present. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Board Member Dave Bertolino to approve the minutes from the April 4th meeting. Board Member Denny Welker seconded the motion. All present voted in favor and the motion was approved. III. PUBLIC COMMENT A. Council Member John Gragnani- Dr. Gragnani discussed the recent fatality that occurred at Pond Rd. and Route 100, and similar incidents at Old Eatherton Rd. and Route 109. He would like a sign at Pond Rd. and Route 100 that states “Local Traffic Only, No Semi Traffic”. He also requested that Captain Mundel rotate officers through both locations to monitor traffic, as well as at Route T and Route 100. He also asked for temporary signals at Route 109 during construction. IV. FOR INFORMATION A. Route 109 Traffic Change 1) MoDOT has eliminated the southbound left turn lane and have now installed temporary signals. 2) The Wildwood Precinct Police and the City are monitoring traffic to see if MODOT should modify the signal phasing or timing. 3) Community Park is being used as a cut-through route, but there are not large numbers yet. Pond Rd. and Pond Grover Loop Rd. are concerns for cut-through traffic. 1 4) The City is conducting traffic counts on Pond Rd. now and we have done so before construction. 5) The City can also count Community Park if the Board desires. 6) The City is working to open Taylor Rd. by June 18 and the City will take it over by 4th of July. 7) Metro West has a pre-emption system operating with the temporary signal at Route 109 and the eastbound ramp. The system can change the signal phase to clear traffic when they receive a call. B. Rick Brown responds to Dr. John Gragnani’s public comment 1) MoDOT is studying the use of J-Turns for the intersection of Route 100 and Pond Road and Route T. That study should be complete soon. 2) The Department of Public Works has hired HR Green to develop a conceptual design for possible improvements to Route 109 at Eatherton Road. The results of that work can be provided to the Board at the July meeting. V. OLD BUSINESS A. Deer Management Plan - Subcommittee Membership 1) Marshal Dan McCune and Board Member Dave Williams will chair the committee. 2) Staff member Brendan Maher and Sgt. Wendling will attend. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. St. Louis County Police Department - Wildwood Precinct Equipment Needs and Associated Requests 1. Director of Planning and Interim City Co-Administrator, Joe Vujnich provided a memorandum of all requests for purchase and a catalogue photo and description of trailer was provided. 2. A motion was made by Board Member Denny Welker to approve purchase of police equipment. The motion was seconded by Board Member Dave Bertolino. All present voted in favor and the motion was approved. VII. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Board Member Dave Bertolino to adjourn, this was seconded by Board Member Denny Welker. All were in favor. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
