Williamsburg Farmers Market Advisory Board
March 11, 2025
A meeting of the Williamsburg Farmers Market Advisory Board was held on March 11, at 2:00 p.m. at
the Stryker Center located at 412 N. Boundary Street.
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Renner called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
WFMAB Members present:
Mr. Youngs, Vice Chair Peffley, Chair Renner, Mr. Johnson
WFMAB Members absent:
Ms. Snyder
Staff:
Mollie Romero (Interim Market Manager), Robbi Hutton (Director of Parks and
Recreation), Taryn Sherrill (Recreation Superintendent).
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. December 10, 2024, was approved.
Moved by Vice Chair Peffley, seconded by Chair Renner, to action
Carried 4-0-0 by a roll call vote:
Ayes: Youngs, Peffley, Renner, and Johnson
Mr. Youngs noted under New Business that it was reported that there would not be any
markets between February 22 and March 29 because vendors would have to relocate
due to the removal of the ice rink. The information was recorded accurately; however,
Manager Frey misinformed the board.

4. MARKET MANAGER’S REPORT
Market Manager’s report is attached.
A. Mr. Johnson inquired about the drop in attendance in December. Ms. Hutton
explained that Placer AI was used instead of volunteers using clickers to count
attendance.
Mr. Youngs suggested including more vendors who sell seasonal items such as
wreaths and other holiday items.
Chair Renner mentioned the parking issues in December.
Chair Renner inquired about the February 2024 market, specifically the Valentine
Market, noting that the weather was beautiful that weekend for attendance.
B. Mr. Johnson inquired about vendor outlook for March 29. Manager Romero
estimated that the vendor count would be about 40. She explained that March
and April are typically not at full capacity. More vendors start participating in May.
Ms. Hutton reported that the William & Mary Dining Dollars will be available again
starting in March. She also mentioned that Manager Romero worked with
VAFMA to restore the Market to its previous Gold Status.
C. Mr. Youngs inquired about the SNAP lapse. Ms. Hutton explained that the Market
has been reinstated through SNAP and that there was only one market affected
by the program lapse. Ms. Hutton also expressed the need to organize better
signage for pay programs and that the Market will be working with the Human
Services Department as a resource.
5. CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT
Chair Renner thanked the Market Manager for her hard work throughout the winter
market season and noted that it had gone very well. She also thanked the Market staff
for their efforts at the vendor meeting in February.
Chair Renner shared the following concerns:
• Some vendors are concerned about change and can find it hard to navigate
those changes
• Need more diverse vendors
6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS

7. NEW BUSINESS
The Winter Market started with 14 vendors. By the end of the winter season, there
were 20-21 vendors in attendance.
A. Year-round market operation
Market Management is considering operating a year-round farmers market. Further
research, including vendor and customer engagement, will be conducted.
Chair Renner inquired about the Market Manager selection process. Ms. Hutton
explained that the selected candidates would be interviewed on March 12.
8. OTHER REPORTS
Director Hutton introduced Mr. Middleton Smith, who will replace Mr. Johnson on the
board as the Colonial Williamsburg representative.
9. ADJOURNMENT
At 2:42 p.m., there being no additional business before the Board, the Williamsburg
Farmers Market Advisory Board meeting of March 11, was adjourned.
Moved by Mr. Johnson, seconded Chair Renner, to adjourn the meeting.
