The Williamsburg Public Art Council met at 3:30 pm, Monday, January 27, 2025, in room 127 at the
Stryker Center, 412 N Boundary Street, Williamsburg, Virginia.
WPAC members present: Robert Currie (Chair), Pat Dent, Bill Hamilton, Barbara Ramsey, Scott Spence,
Rachel Trichler, and Barbara Vollmer.
WPAC members absent:
Staff members present: Joanna Skrabala (Tourism Division Manager) and Sarah Seward (Economic
Development Administrative Coordinator)
I. Call to Order
Mr. Currie called the meeting to order at 3:32 PM.
II. Approval of Minutes
a. December 2, 2024 – WPAC Minutes
Ms. Ramsey motioned to approve the October minutes. Seconded by Mr. Hamilton.
Approved by Mr. Currie, Mr. Dent, Mr. Hamilton, Ms. Ramsey, Mr. Spence, and Ms.
Vollmer.
III. Chair’s Report
a. Member Updates
Mr. Currie reported that the WPAC will be receiving two new members to fill the EDA
and TDGRC liaison roles. The proposal will go to the City Council for approval.
IV. Staff Report
a. 2025 Meeting Calendar
Ms. Skrabala reviewed the 2025 meeting dates.
b. RFP Update
Progress has been made on the Lantern RFP. Ms. Skrabala is collaborating with Public
Works and Guernsey Tingle to finalize the project specifications.
The RFP for the Trailhead project is ready and awaiting final approval from City
leadership before it can be released.
There are no new updates regarding College Landing Park.
c. Community Appreciation Day 2025

Dates for Community Appreciation Day 2025 are still being determined. The event will
be held at City Square. A suggested theme for the event was a “year for the
environment” to coincide with William & Mary’s annual theme.
d. WATA Bus Wrap Contest
Ms. Skrabala has contacted WATA for further information but has not received a
response.
e. Portals.org
Ms. Skrabala reported that she conversed with a representative for the Portal. The
Portal is an innovative art project designed to unite people from different cities. It is a
sculpture equipped with a live stream, allowing real-time interaction between two
locations. It could serve as interactive artwork to be showcased in 2026.
Ms. Trichler inquired about the longevity of the portal, and Ms. Skrabala said she would
ask about it. Mr. Spence asked what the resale value was, and Ms. Skrabala said she
would inquire.
f. Inventory – W&M Busts
The City possesses two busts of King William III and Queen Mary II of England, which
were given to the City. The busts need to be moved, and Ms. Skrabala asked the WPAC
for ideas on their relocation. The WPAC agreed that either William and Mary, the
Muscarelle, or the new library would be suitable locations.
g. Financial Report
Ms. Skrabala shared the financial report, noting that nothing has changed since the
December meeting.
V. New Business
a. Williamsburg Poet Laureate – Review and Discussion of Applications
The WPAC carefully reviewed the four submitted Williamsburg Poet Laureate
applications and has selected two finalists for consideration.
VI. Next Meeting
The next meeting is Monday, February 24, 2025, at 3:30 PM in Room 127 at the Stryker Center.
VII. Adjournment
Mr. Currie made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:32 PM. Seconded by Ms. Trichler.
