ADJOURNMENT Page 1 of 4 The Williamsburg Public Art Council met at 3:30 pm, Monday, March 31, 2025, in room 127 at the Stryker Center, 412 N Boundary Street, Williamsburg, Virginia. WPAC members present: Robert Currie (Chair), Cash Arehart, Pat Dent, Bill Hamilton, Elaine McBeth, Barbara Ramsey, Rachel Trichler, and Barbara Vollmer. WPAC members absent: Scott Spence Staff members present: Joanna Skrabala (Tourism Division Manager) and Sarah Seward (Economic Development Administrative Coordinator) I. Call to Order Mr. Currie called the meeting to order at 3:34 PM. II. Approval of Minutes a. February 24, 2025 – WPAC Minutes Mr. Currie motioned to approve the February minutes. Seconded by Ms. Trichler. Approved by Mr. Arehart, Mr. Currie, Mr. Dent, Mr. Hamilton, Ms. McBeth, Ms. Ramsey, Ms. Trichler, and Ms. Vollmer. III. Chair’s Report a. New Member Introductions – Elaine McBeth (EDA) and Cash Arehart (TDGRC) Mr. Currie welcomed the new members, Cash Arehart and Elaine McBeth. Ms. McBeth and Ms. Arehart introduced themselves. b. VA250 & “A Common Cause to All” Conference Mr. Currie shared that “A Common Cause to All” was a success and received positive feedback. There were about 500 conference attendees. IV. Staff Report a. Portals.org Update Ms. Skrabala provided an overview of Portals.org and shared that although we are interested, we are not ready to pursue the project. b. Financial Report Ms. Skrabala shared the financial report. There are no changes except for the Community Appreciation Day budget, which has been reduced from $5,000 to $2,500. Page 2 of 4 V. Closed Session a. Closed Session Pursuant to the Code of Virginia Sec. 2.2-3711 Subparagraph 1 For the Purpose of Discussing One Personnel Matter Concerning an Appointment Mr. Dent motioned to enter a Closed Session Pursuant to the Code of Virginia Sec. 2.2-3711 Subparagraph 1 For the Purpose of Discussing One Personnel Matter Concerning an Appointment. Seconded by Ms. Trichler. Approved by Mr. Arehart, Mr. Currie, Mr. Dent, Mr. Hamilton, Ms. McBeth, Ms. Ramsey, Ms. Trichler, and Ms. Vollmer. b. Certification of Closed Session Mr. Dent motioned that the Williamsburg Public Art Council certify that only those matters permitted by the Code of Virginia 2.2-3711 were discussed during the closed session. Seconded by Ms. Ramsey. Approved by Mr. Arehart, Mr. Currie, Mr. Dent, Mr. Hamilton, Ms. McBeth, Ms. Ramsey, Ms. Trichler, and Ms. Vollmer. VI. New Business a. Williamsburg Poet Laureate Recommendation – Consideration & Approval Ms. McBeth motioned that the Williamsburg Public Art Council approve the recommendation of Lacroy Nixon as the inaugural Williamsburg Poet Laureate with a term beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2027, subject to City Council approval and appointment. Seconded by Mr. Arehart. Approved by Mr. Arehart, Mr. Currie, Mr. Dent, Mr. Hamilton, Ms. McBeth, Ms. Ramsey, Ms. Trichler, and Ms. Vollmer. b. Community Appreciation Day Concept & Budget – Consideration & Approval Ms. Skrabala presented a concept for a Community Appreciation Day art project, a “hanging garden”, featuring individually crafted flower ornaments. This project will be displayed in the windows of the Stryker Center from early May to early June. Ms. Trichler motioned that the Williamsburg Public Art Council approve a not-to-exceed budget for its 2025 Community Appreciation Day public art project in the dollar amount of $2,500 pursuant to City Council Ordinance #21-01 and Resolution #21-03. Seconded by Ms. Ramsey. Approved by Mr. Arehart, Mr. Currie, Mr. Dent, Mr. Hamilton, Ms. McBeth, Ms. Ramsey, Ms. Trichler, and Ms. Vollmer. VII. Next Meeting The next meeting is Monday, April 28, 2025, at 3:30 PM in Room 127 at the Stryker Center. VIII. Adjournment Mr. Currie made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:03 PM. Seconded by Ms. Trichler.
