Meeting Minutes
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2022
▪ CALL TO ORDER: Michael Sansevero called the October 5, 2022 CAAB meeting to order at 7:00p.m. in the City
Commission Chambers.
▪ PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Michael led the Pledge of Allegiance.
▪ ROLL CALL: Johnnie took roll call: Michael Sansevero, Robert Hadley, Harrison C. Davies, Scott Ballina, and Marc
Marois were present. Carvelle Estriplet (7:11p.m.) and Jasmen Rogers (7:03p.m.) were absent at rollcall but arrived shortly
thereafter.
▪ ADDITIONS/CHANGES/DELETIONS TO AGENDA: Agenda accepted as written.
▪ PRESENTATIONS/SPONSORSHIP REQUESTS:
a. None.
▪ APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 7, 2022: Minutes approved unanimously.
▪ UPDATE FROM CITY LIAISON: Johnnie shared the current (final 21/22 fiscal year) CAAB financial statement and
provided a copy of the City’s updated resident Welcome Guide.
▪ UPDATE FROM CHAIR: Michael noted that he will be speaking at the 10/11 Commission Meeting to provide a
CAAB quarterly report wherein he will address the CAAB recommendation of LGBTQ+ History Month honoree
recognition, appointment of a city staff member as liaison on the various city art committees, and a summary of recent
CAAB accomplishments.
▪ PUBLIC COMMENTS: No members of the public were present.
▪ UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a.) CAAB Mission Statement – Michael noted that the CAAB proposed CAAB Mission Statement has been submitted to
the Commission and will be addressed in a future Commission meeting.
b.) CAAB Shirts/CAAB branding (Harrison): Harrison reported that the shirts are complete and ready for pickup.
c.) New Resident “Welcome Wagon” (Marc) – Marc reported that he reached out to the Neighborhood Associations.
The Board responded favorably to the Welcome Guide that Johnnie provided, happy to see that something so
extensive was made available to new residents. Mike noted that with CAAB/Marc’s involvement he hopes for a
unified approach to welcoming new residents. Robert noted that he spoke with someone with the Wilton Manors
Historical Society and learned that they use the city’s new utility accounts list to send letters to new residents – similar
to what Hunter Stephens had described for the west-neighborhood association. Mike noted the challenge to identify
new residents not being reached. Scott asked if the updated Welcome Guide is available on the city’s website –
Johnnie responded that it is not currently, but that he will add it to the website.
d.) Spooktacular Event – Thursday, October 20 – 6:30-9pm – WM Elementary School – CAAB table was confirmed with
Leisure Services – costumes are encouraged. Johnnie will provide meeting time and location information.
e.) Women’s/Black History/Community Spirit Awards – form revisions for 2023 were discussed. On the Black History
Month nomination form, it was requested that in the first sentence the word “heritage” be replaced with “culture”;
also add “Currently seated CAAB members are not eligible.” on the forms. Jasmen asked if the Black History Month
honorees can be identified in time for the February 4 Cook Out event – this will be pursued; and requested CAAB
sponsorship of the Cook Out on the next CAAB agenda
f.) LGBTQ+ History Month (October) – Commission recommendation (Mike) – the Board agreed to make
recommendation to the City Commission that honorees be recognized for this month, similar to Women’s/Black
History months. Scott suggested the same for Hispanic Heritage Month and will research and offer recommendation.
g.) Arts & Wellness Fair – September 24 – post event discussion. Mike and Robert reported that they attended this
event, representing CAAB. The event went well, was well-received, but attendance was low.
FINAL CAAB Meeting Minutes -1- Adopted: November 2, 2022
October 5, 2022 Meeting
▪ NEW BUSINESS:
a.) CAAB 2022 Accomplishments/2023 Goals document due to City Clerk’s Office in November – the Board reviewed
the draft document prepared/provided by Johnnie, and approved it being issued to the City Clerk’s Office with the
addition of recommending recognition/honoree for LGBTQ+ History month in October 2023.
b.) Lost Dog/Community Bulletin Board – discussion at request of V/M Rolli – the board discussed a recent social
media post RE: the lack of a community bulletin board to post, specifically in this case, a found dog. Mike referred to
a few other cities’ Facebook Groups for lost pets in the community, such as the “Pompano Beach Lost Pets and
Animals” group. The possibility of an actual/physical bulletin board at City Hall was discussed, but was not deemed
practical. The Board approved a recommendation to the Commission that a social media (Facebook) group be
considered for Wilton Manors Lost Pets/Animals.
▪ COMMUNICATIONS TO COMMISSION: Mike will give a CAAB update in the 10/11/22 Commission meeting, to
include recommendation of Wilton Manors Lost Pets Facebook group, an art organizations staff liaison, and LGBTQ+
History Month honorees program.
▪ BOARD MEMBER REPORTS AND REQUEST FOR AGENDA ITEMS: Next agenda items as noted previously.
▪ NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING DATE: Wednesday, November 2, at 7pm – Chambers.
▪ ADJOURNMENT:
Michael adjourned the meeting at 8:15p.m.
